I really have the agree with Sandman. I also dropped in last night to take advantage of the Monday night two-for-one pizza deal. How can you beat this? There may be a few better pizzas out there (I’m a Mr. Paco’s fan, myself) but Citizen Cain’s would certainly rate an 8 out of 10 in my book. I also found the service quite attentive. The waitress checked in on us frequently and even brought us pretzels to snack on when it turned out the pizzas would take a little longer than usual (didn’t really notice the delay).
In fact, so attentive was she in replenishing our drinks, that one of our group is mysteriously absent from work today. Hmm, is it possible to be too attentive?
Sorry. Mea Culpa. After rethinking the fact that the pizza had BOTH artichokes AND salmon, I am giving it a 5.0. Let me clarify by saying even though I like Cosi a Cosi as a restaurant (compared with Paris 1930 a 10.0) even though I like it I would only give it a 6.5 to 7.0
The size was generous, the artichokes were good, the salmon was generous. I just found the center a bit uncooked and the cheese a bit too stringy but… not worthy of a 3.5. My mistake.
How big are the pizzas? Should I get a big group to finish the two pies? Or will this be enough for a friend and me?
Also, what is the deal with Happy Hour? All beers for NT$ 100? Big Taiwan beers, too?

went in to try it.
agree with fred. tried the salmon pizza, the middle needs to be cooked more, tasted a little too doughy. the portions were fine for the price. had the salmon and the classico. enuf for 3 ppl. beer was fine; had some of the belgians. overall price was good.
service was a little mixed. one of the waitresses seemed very inexperienced. the two owner/bartenders(?) would welcome in and talk to the foreigners, but not asians (that I saw while there). several other asians came in and were served by the asian waitresses only. maybe they were just uncomfortable talking with taiwanese? our table was clearly a bunch of expats, albeit not white or black (there were a couple others), but i didn’t feel we got the same kind of welcome. kinda just ignored. maybe I’m being sensitive, but just didn’t get that friendly atmosphere feeling.
you know fred, i just don’t get love from taiwanese nor foreigners. lol.
I went last night at about 7pm, but they were closed. I also heard they got raided on Friday by the pigs and one of the staff got carted off to the pigsty for the night. Is this the end for Citizen Cain?

Citizen Cain is not going to close. It is true that it got raided on Friday night (I was there later) but I think the management just wants to lie low for a while but it will probably be open today. I think that it is just trying to avoid the bar spillover into the streets so today should be a different matter.

I hope you are right, Fred. I only found out about the place a short time ago, but I like it and just a week or two later … So from what you wrote, it seems it really is about noise, not the music inside but the drunken revellers outside in the street. Maybe they need some kind of bouncer type to keep some kind of peace outside on busy nights.
I just hope the owners don’t lose their stomachs because of this hassle.

To all the patrons, and those who wish to be patrons, of Citizen Cain…The news of our closing has been greatly exaggerated. Fear not, our doors remain open. We have had some problems with the poe-leese, but it ain’t no thang. We’re sorting it out, but in the mean time, feel free to come in for the food and booze, just try to come in a little earlier.

Great news. When you get a chance, could you tell us what the brunch consists of and how much it costs. I don’t think I can haul myself out of bed on a weekend without incentive.

Hi again. When I say brunch, I mean brunch in every sense of the word…eggs, toast, waffles, bacon, sausage, toastie sandwiches, fresh brewed coffee, pancakes…and I promise you, the prices are as reasonable as those for dinner. We have a live band doing it’s thing on Sunday for a few hours in the afternoon, so come and enjoy.
As for the Thursday night Jam…I will get back to you with more precise info soon, but considering our current position, we would like to request that any and all interested in listenning or participating, please try to show up earlier than 10pm. Like I said, more info to follow soon.

And in response to the observation that there has been no good place to eat brunch since UM closed…Funny you should mention that, because we have asked Ellen, one of the old owners of UM to lend a hand and her sage advice to help get us up and running. And she has done a great job so far!!! I loved her at UM, and I love her even more at CC!!
