And still overpriced?
Yeah, I know I get them online… but I was wondering if I could buy one of those in a shop. I’ve already found a shop with them but I’m not sure if I like them. I like the type I posted.
I’ve seen the Hario ones for sale at Cama cafes, but for around NT$1,000. Never seen that fancy steel model.
Where are you?
I’m here.
Taipei?
Have you considered a battery powered one?
“Grinder,” not “Grindr.” ![]()
Actually, their brewing equipment is not as horribly priced as their burnt & butter coffee. ![]()
Those Hario Skerton grinders are okay for grinding finer. It’s possible they have had design changes for coarse grinding. You’ll have to look into that.
I have a pretty old model. I keep it on the coarsest setting, and it does an OK job. Not perfect, but perfectly OK.
Stumbled across this topic… very long thread and maybe missed it, but any recommendations on the best source for beans in Taipei? Saw Cama mentioned… and Partner as well but a quick Google Map search for Partner Coffee didn’t turn up anything.
Only recently upgraded to a conical grinder (relatively inexpensive Cuisinart DBM-8 purchased on Amazon while in US) and the difference has been very noticeable. I actually like the dark/burnt roasts at Starbucks (I’m from Seattle haha) but sort of interested in experimenting a little bit.
Oddly enough, I decided to try the conical grinder after buying pre-ground (and pre-packaged) coffee at QFC (local supermarket there) since I did not have a grinder handy. Was surprised that it tasted pretty good and actually better than what I was making here at home in Taipei using the blade grinder.
Beans? There are a lot of fine small roasters doing great beans.
It’s about time your get out of the ‘tar’ period.
Partner’s got several branches in the Danshui area. If you’re in that area, it’s good, but I doubt it’s worth trekking across Taipei for.
Electric one and doesn’t look bad
I don’t want it. Simple things, even if I need to use my muscles. Or even because of that.
Mine’s the old model, too. I bought an extra bearing piece that was designed by a third party especially for the Hario Skerton. It holds the bottom part of the burr in place better, so the uniformity of the ground coffee is more consistent. Unfortunately, that company doesn’t make that bearing assembly anymore.
Probably not exactly the same but related. Yesterday I disassembled the thing and saw that a piece of plastic was broken. I overcome my impulse of buying a whole new grinder and looked for parts on Ruten. I almost buy a new set of the conic ceramic parts that grinds down the beans but decided to just buy the plastic piece of shit. The delivery fee is more expensive than the part itself, but whatever:
