Isn’t that all of them? Are there others?

Margaret Cho
Flip Wilson

Was just thinking of Flip Wilson!
But he’s 42 on the list.
What’s so funny about Margaret Cho?

Any Aussies on the list?
Don’t know if they do stand up, but the three women from Kath and Kim are among the funniest female comediennes I’ve ever seen.

Spalding Gray?

And excuse me if my scanning skillssss have gone to shit, but where is Whoopie?

I didn’t see Flip’s name. As Maoman said, it really seems as if there is not anyone left.
As for Cho, I agree she is not that funny, but I think there are some names on the original list which the same could be said about. I think I added her name simply to point out someone who was not mentioned.

Actually, I agree with your comments about Whoppi, which I think is a an unusual oversight, and I also question the name Jim Carrey coming in at number 36. I honestly don’t know if Carrey did much stand-up in his life, but I associate him more with movies and the TV show “In Living Color,” and I would put some others on the list, like Jackie Mason/ Belzer, far ahead of him in the stand-up category.

I would also like to add Dennis Leary’s name to the list of stand-ups who was not mentioned.

Denis is at number 50…

Careful, some on this forum may construe that as being (fucking) racist, anti-Asian, narrow-minded, sexist, etc… :unamused:

BFM, which Brit can you see? I see Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard, who are both way too low down on the list. I saw Jasper Carrot live about ten years ago, and he was pretty funny as well, and in such a nice wholesome family way as well!

Andrew Dice Clay? Even at 95, really?

Still can’t figure out what it is that makes me despise Robin Williams so.
BFM, which Brit can you see? I see Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard, who are both way too low down on the list.
Ok, I can see two now
I saw Jasper Carrot live about ten years ago, and he was pretty funny as well, and in such a nice wholesome family way as well!
He came to mind as well, as did Ben Elton, But I wasn’t sure they were as good as they used to be. His (Jasper’s) daughter plays Dawn in the Office, you know.

Indeed I did (saw the Making Of…), and Mackenzie Crook (Gareth in The Office) plays the one-eyed ghostly sailor bloke in Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Ben Elton’s writing is excellent - Dead Famous and High Society are both fantastic reads
(and completely irrelevant to this thread because being an author hardly qualifies as stand up… sorry, I’ll stop now)

They’re hilarious, but no, none of them are known for doing stand-up comedy - mainly TV sketch comedy, movies, etc.

I can’t really think of any outstanding Australian stand-up comedians. The Allstars, of course, while being the funniest comedic act ever  were more comedic performers than traditional stand-up comedy.

bernard manning. What do you think of him? if you know who he is of course, the brits will!

“I just panic. If I’m on an airplane and we hit turbulence, I immediately start looking in my purse for food I will have to hide from the other survivors.”

Margaret Cho is funny. They also forgot Rita Rudner and put George Carlin as second to Richard Pryor and Sam Kinison’s not even in the top ten (and barely makes the top 20 at #20 which is better than Dennis who doesn’t even do that)? And Ellen Degeneres being ranked higher than Steven Wright? WTF? A good comedian is one that you can think of a joke they tell and it still makes you laugh. Of the top 20, only a small handful can do that for me, however there are some outside of the first 20 who can.
The list should be split by those who came along before 1960 and those who came after. For some reason, ranking Johnny Carson against George Carlin (yes, I know he was doing stand-up before 1960) seems like comparing apples and elephants.

I couldn’t remember her name! She’s very funny! I saw her live once at a club.
Where’s Carrot top?

I saw Steve Martin back around '76 doing stand-up at my university bar. I laughed my ass off.

BFM, few canadians and even fewer americans understand british humour, hence the reason why so few of our guys and gals ever get into these lists. For most of them they just get a centre parting a mile wide.

We just don’t understand what passes for English in the UK. Seriously, I once saw Eric Idle interviewed by David Letterman on British humor. He said that British humor is more “absurdist” in nature.
