Convert characters to pinyin

Does anyone know of any software for Mac that allows me to highlight Chinese characters and have it show the Pinyin for the highlighted characters? Ideally not just inside the browser.

I can recommend the Zhongwen pop up dictionary extension for firefox. It also includes a hotkey for explaining grammar for any unknown grammar/characters.

Open the Dictionary App on your Mac go to preferences, select the language you want

in the dictionary section select the two below

then select any character and right click

go to look up “??”

and you will get something like this
