Cool places to go around Taipei on hot weekends

Beside movie theaters and department stores, where can I go on weekends by public transport so I don’t get cooked by the sun?

Art museums, public libraries and McDonald’s. The latter is the most popular option among the locals.

There are some waterfalls you can jump and swing, some there are a bit tricky to get but there are the best.

Explore the underground malls beneath Zhongxiao or Taipei Main. It’s easy to get lost but it’s interesting. I always find something different when I go there.

I like to know too, I’m not going out much because it’s so damned hot to be outside. Taipei 101 gets old after about the 5th trip but it’s the only place that I know of to go to that’s air conditioned.

Are there any free art museums out there? I remember sometimes SYS Memorial Hall has art displays.

I think another option is public swimming pools or beaches.

The Fine Arts Museum near Yuanshan is only like 30 NT or something.

Wulai, go to Wulai. Jump in the river. Then eat boar.

I second this. Underground malls are good for a full afternoon of shopping or just walking around.

The Taipei Fine Arts Museum is free from 17:00-20:30 every Saturday.
The National Palace Museum is free from 16:30-21:00 every Friday and Saturday if you are an R.O.C. citizen – just show your ID at the entrance (This is only in effect until 12/31/2019).

Underground malls at Taipei train station … yes it was good for normal people but for people with disability it was kind of tiring. I was pushing my bro’s wheelchair and kind of lost looking for elevator’s, eventually found the elevator’s but we been roaming around and got lost  then I end up with tired legs and telling my bro can you just take the escalator and I wait for you up there (His laughing at me)… Anyway as soon as we got home I told him I will not take him out anymore his too heavy :worried:

Elevator is at Y13. It’s the only one as I know.

I do wonder about all the massive underground complex at Taipei main station… What if a big earthquake hits? could become a tomb…

No point living in fear of uncontrollable events like earthquakes.

You are thinking too much

You’re probably much safer there than in most of the concrete rat traps around.

It is like 8 floors down below. There are 3 malls there underground sandwiched in the middle. You do not wnat to think about it, but anyways there are plenty of emergency exits.

My family and I just had a great couple days hiking and hot springing in Yangmingshan national park just north of the city. It dropped from 34 to 26 as we drove up the mountain. We stayed at a little resort with rooms and cabins. 菁山遊憩區
No. 16, Alley 71, Lane 101, Jingshan Road, Shilin District, Taipei City, Taiwan 111

There was a bus stop just outside the entrance of the resort, or you could hire a taxi from the nearest MRT stop to your chosen destination. The loud, smelly, sweaty Taipei looks great from 1000m up.
