oh i get it. That is meant to be a thumbs up lol I will change it
Not what I’m hearing. My sister-in-law is an ICU nurse in NYC (I know) and even young people who are otherwise healthy except for the fact they vape, have asthma or are overweight (not even obese) are dying or needing a ventilator.
Happy Birthday by the way.
I don’t know whether the demographic stats are changing. Perhaps younger people are going to start getting hit more in nations that have higher levels of obesity. The Italians are considerably less porky than the Americans or the Brits.
Cheers, although 50 feels horrific at the moment.
Well, our flights to Canada just got cancelled. I’m waiting to hear from the government about extending the expiry date on my wife’s permanent residence visa but I figure we’re not going until July now.
Yeah anyone traveling the to their homelands heads up: someone I know who was heading back to the States said their flight straight up disappeared off the website. Like, had a ticket, logged on for online checkin, and the flight didn’t exist anymore.
finley: Ducked:Now, if they need those, what are the probable implications for your disposable 7-11 stylee “surgical mask” which your disposable economic shock troops will probably be wearing?
My personal view has evolved from “masks aren’t useful” to “any mask is better than no mask” on the basis that a major transmission route is hand-to-mouth contact, ie., people touching a contaminated surface and then touching their own nose/mouth/face.
COVID-19’s R0 is apparently about 2.4, which doesn’t seem that high. Get that number down below 1 and it all just goes away. A crappy nightmarket scooter mask may well decrease that 2.4 down to something more manageable simply because it stops you touching your own face.
I don’t object to that line of argument.
I did object to exaggerating mask effectiveness, but Hansioux seems to have shifted on that, from “Masks Work” to "We have to say that, to get the peons back to work "
Before he sounded optimistic, now he sounds like he works for The Man, a gain in realism if nothing else.
He’s wrong though. It isn’t necessary to lie to get people to do dangerous work. You just have to starve them.
This is the way it has always been done.
Well, perhaps not quite always
There is actually a mask reference at the end in that scene but its been cut from this version
Foreman “Do these work?”
Scientist “To an extent”
.
I think that sums it up

Permanent residency has an expiry date? Sounds like an oxymoron.
Interesting (albeit not particularly encouraging) blog post about recent preliminary clinical trial results:
The Latest Coronavirus Clinical Trials
Time to catch up with the latest clinical news in the field. The big story this morning is apparently some real data out of a controlled trial of chloroquine from China. There have been anecdotal reports, but to the best of my knowledge we have seen...

She doesn’t have permanent residency yet, so I might have explained that wrong.
She’s applied and it’s been approved, but she’s supposed to enter Canada by the end of April for the residency to kick in–if she misses that date, then the offer of permanent residency is cancelled and we need to go through the whole process of applying again.
We can’t even go to the south pole now.
reference is missing me
