Coronavirus - Taiwan 2021

That annoys me. If some numbnuts who travels the world for a living is too stupid to get a vaccine, then he’s too stupid to sit in the cockpit of a massive jet.

Roll your sleeve up or fuck off.

A lot of the blame belongs with the Taiwanese government, they have done nothing to dispel the generally held belief amongst Taiwanese that the vaccine is dangerous and not necessary. They haven’t even managed to get health care worker to take it in decent numbers.

I believe this is intentional since they are favoring a locally created vaccine, over those that are already available, even though the local vaccine is going to be used before a phase III trial is conducted and only after a very small (4,000 people) phase II trial, so no one is going to know if it is effective or even safe in the real world.

At least the Mr. Chen and the Premier as well as city mayors have all taken the AZ shot so it’s something I guess.
President Tsai is currently waiting for a Taiwan vaccine.

I posted in the other thread a current study which confirms that Pfizer and Moderna are similarly affected by blood knot issue. The risk is tiny and is actually 10x greater when covid infection occurs in non-vaccinated.

All panic making is utterly irresponsible. People need to know the risks, but vaccines are safe.

Ridiculous

This needs to be repeated.

There’s a lot of people who can be blamed for vaccine hesitancy.

Macron and his idiotic comments
Social media for not removing antivax posts (yet I got a 5 day ban for calling an antivaxxer a numbnuts because it’s bullying)
The government for not dispelling the myth
The media for running with any antivax story they can and blowing them out of proportion
Antivaxxers themselves for outright lying—there is one antivaxxer who has actually started a fake medical journey to spout nonsense–The Primary Doctors Medical Journal, which on the surface looks legit and claims to be peer-reviewed, but it’s ran by one person and isn’t peer-reviewed at all.
Idiots who believe a youtube video from a channel that also has videos about how aliens built the pyramids over actual experts

I wish this study would have been published by an organization that didn’t have a vested interest in a specific vaccine. I do hope they are correct about the risk being 4 or 5 in 1 million, I have seen a lot lower figures from medical professionals that are highly regarded.

Just as an aside, I’m pro vaccine and will get the vaccine when my turn comes available, but I do think that it is important to not cut corners with safety trials, especially when there are already vaccines available that have completed Phase III trials.

Chen said that case No. 1,145 is a male contractor in his 40s who has been working for the Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport hotel for nearly a month. […] On April 28, he began to experience a cough and went to a clinic for medical treatment on April 30. The health department then arranged for him to undergo a coronavirus test on May 1, and he tested positive for COVID-19 on May 3, with a Ct value of 13.

Okay, so even though the contractor worked for the hotel, he apparently wasn’t placed under home isolation. Instead, it sounds as if he could still visit a clinic on his own.

Chen stated that case No. 1,146 is an Indonesian woman in her teens who is a family member of an Indonesian cargo pilot in his 40s who was diagnosed in Australia, […] As she was listed as a contact of these cases, she was tested for the coronavirus on April 21, but the results came back negative. […] She began to develop a mild fever, runny nose, and sore throat on April 30 but did not report them because they were mild. Because more of her family members began to test positive for the virus, the health department arranged for her to undergo another coronavirus test as a precaution on May 2.

Shows again that the “self-health monitoring” probably will miss many cases.

CECC strengthens disease prevention and management measures for flight crews of foreign and Taiwanese airlines

PublishTime:2021-05-03

On May 3, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that in principle, flight crew members of foreign airline companies would be collectively quarantined at only one quarantine hotel which would be determined jointly by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) and the Taoyuan City Government.

Regarding the quarantine hotel for crew members of Taiwanese airline companies, the CAA is in charge of determining a designated quarantine hotel, and the CAA has designated Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport to offer quarantine rooms for crew members of Taiwanese airlines for the time being.

As always, panic is fueled by special interests… How can you explain doctors telling people not to vaccinate?!

Yes, most pilots haven’t vaccinated and you can’t force them. However, quarantine is not going to be a picnic anymore…check new regulations.

And talking about slips of the tongue, have a look at today’s presser by Super Mayor Ko. Aside from revealing a location of work of a case - oops, but happens to everyone, even minister Chen- he blamed Chunches Telecom for the brave escapee who traveled all the way to Kenting for a marathon. Seems there was a 3 hour delay in the system realizing man was gone/phone was off…

In summary, we do have a good system in theory. The human factor is what killing us.

That human factor is what leads people not to report their symptoms: fear, denial, you name it. No one wants COVID.

GET YOUR BOG ROLL SUPPLIES IN, WE’RE ALL ^%$#ED!!!

The start of this spread is stupefying stupid, the manager from Novotel went to local clinics “several times” before going to hospital and being diagnosed with pneumonia and the following day with Covid. At no point does the fact that he worked in a quarantine hotel seem to have been mentioned or triggered a ^%$ me moment…

Folks, remember to please wear your masks and please wash your hands. Protect yourselves and protect others—it’s win win if we do this right.

Guy

People going to clinics several times before finally being diagnosed seems to have been a common theme here since the start, yet there still seems to be reluctance to do more widespread testing (“here’s some unnecessary antibiotics and some omeprazole to protect your stomach from the harsh Western medicine, come back in 3 days for some more”).

I wonder whether they’ve tested the doctor, staff, and patients at the ENT clinic(s)? It seems like they’d be relatively high risk.

I suspect they would be the easy ones to contact trace.

I’d be amazed if they were not in 14 day isolation, unless the authorities determined that everyone was following protocol and wearing masks…

Guy

That was exactly my concern. I just didn’t see anything mentioned about those people in any of the articles.

Incidentally, one of the recent cases seems to have visited one of the Thai restaurants on Tingzhou Lu. It doesn’t appear to be my Thai restaurant on Tingzhou Lu, but I just walked by them on my way home to see whether they were deserted or closed for disinfection. The one I think it was seemed a lot quieter than usual (it’s often packed), but still open and with a decent crowd inside. Those people must be hard, if not impossible, to contact trace.

Do you have a link or source?

Guy

It’s from here, with the relevant part highlighted in bold. I’m not sure where this text came from – I assume some government department or another – my girlfriend forwarded it to me earlier today.
