To everyone who is posting about curve flattening:

(1.1)^50 = 117.3
(1.1)^100 = 13780.6

Languages with similar syntax and grammar structure is easier to machine translate, ie. an algorithm can usually get it. You know between English, Spanish, French, German, etc.

But English and Chinese is completely different family, lots of ways to get bad translations or even stupidly funny translations. Which is why I don’t get people being content with machine translations rather than hiring actual translators. With China becoming a major economic player Chinese and English translations should have far more demand.

And those guys editing a machine translated text will get a bad translation that reads well.

You mean for Wanhua, right? Overall it is still ~3%.

just hope we don’t find ourselves in a situation like in Chernobyl where they were saying “3.6 roentgens, not great, not terrible” only to later realize the instrument could only max out at 3.6.

This is why its important to keep maximizing testing capacity all over the country so we can get laser accuracy on infection rates

Apparently there is a cluster of cases at NTU Hospital and also some Dialysis Center. The whole hospital will be tested now. Hope that the cluster can be controlled there. It is ridiculous that a majority of the medical staff at NTUH hasn’t even received one dose of the vaccine yet.

As for the places of residence, 129 cases were in New Taipei City (26 cases in Zhonghe District), 70 in Taipei City (31 Wanhua District), 28 in Changhua County, 16 in Taoyuan City, 8 in Kaohsiung City, 5 Taichung City, 4 in Keelung City, 3 in Yilan County, and two each in Tainan City and Hsinchu City. Epidemiological investigations found 87 cases engaged in activities in Taipei’s Wanhua District, while 73 cases were associated with tea parlors in the district. Another 28 were dry fruit merchants, two cases were members of the Lions Club International group, and one went on a religious pilgrimage. There are 27 still under investigation, and 49 infections are from an unknown source.

Too late to boost capacity too much, they are already doing a bit of boost by doing the rapid test first at the screening centers and then using that to refer people to PCR test.

I think the vaccines will arrive sooner than anticipated as a result. So it’s more a matter of holding the line till the vaccines arrive rather than being able to eradicate the virus

So what is the deal with the dry fruit merchants which seem to come up for the first time today?

It seems like 陳時中 really doesn’t want to elevate Taiwan to Level 4. He said that we need at least 100 cases daily for two weeks AND at least half of the total cases for those two weeks must have an unknown source of infection. He mentioned that the second condition seems unlikely to be satisfied because most cases are being traced to one of the three clusters at the moment.

It’s kind of weird to have the second condition in my opinion. Taiwan’s ability to contact trace better than other nations might be its own downfall (in this aspect).

The NTU Hospital cluster is (edited: not) with medical units. It’s in 工務所 (building maintenance). 台大醫院工務室爆感染

We can spin this into a positive! Let’s show the world how to flatten the curve!

臺灣加油!
