U.S. Recognition of Taiwan
Two articles in there of interest I think:
On 12 May, New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters stated that his nation will support Taiwanâs inclusion in the World Health Assembly at the organizationâs meeting the following week. The Assembly governs the World Health Organization, the international body tasked with fighting pandemics like COVID-19. China has excluded Taiwan from the WHA since 2017, after participating in sessions as an observer since 2009.
and
As the confrontation between the United States and China intensifies, Taiwan will occupy a pivotal place. Since becoming the site of the exiled Nationalist Chinese government after the Chinese Communist Partyâs (CCP) conquest of mainland China in 1949, the island state has become a flourishing and prosperous liberal democracy boasting the 21st-largest economy in the world.
Zero today
I hope since tomorrow a new month starts that we donât need any more daily pressers. What a waste of time in the media and also a waste of the ministry of healthâs time
They announced a week ago that after June 7th, when 4 contagion cycles will be «completed», they would give weekly press conferences, but would adjust depending on how the situation evolves.
Those stimulus cheques are for foreigners too!
Taiwan News with its brief daily report on the press conference:
Guy
I am surprised , first time weâve been able to access this kind of program in a while.(foreign residents) .The amount is a bit low to make an impact in my opinion.
I donât get out of bed for less than 10k.
Can I have yours then? ![]()
During a radio interview on May 25, National Development Council (NDC) Minister Kung Ming-hsin (éŸæé«) said the plan is to allow anyone, regardless of age or income level, to buy NT$3,000 worth of vouchers for NT$1,000 (US$32.9). These can then be used to shop at stores, buy train tickets and pay taxi fares.
So with my two kids and wife, I think this is pretty nice.
Itâs probably safer to save your surprise while we wait and see what half-assed system they introduce for foreigners to access the program. ![]()
My money is on it requiring a card reader, an account with a specific Taiwanese bank, a guarantor, and a fax machine.
Fax machine?
I think you may have mistaken this place for Japan! : D
Guy
I was using a fax machine until this year in the office !
They have quite a lot of nice videos on Kaoshiung and now Tainan for the past two months, seems very popular with locals from comments.
Local AMEX travel and corporate card drones still want me to fax them stuff⊠sometimes just for fun I ask if my personal information will be disposed of properly when they are finished. Always good for a laugh, or cry, guess it depends on my mood that day.
And you must use Internet Explorer running on Windows XP ![]()
New case was a 50 yr old women returning from Trumpistan on May 31. 37 people from the same flight in home quarantine. Another person who knew full well she was sick before flying.
1st of June = 1 case
2nd of June = 2 cases
3rd of June = 3 cases
âŠ
30th of June: 3459203 cases
Weâre doomed, guys.
