Coronavirus - Taiwan OPEN June 2021

Ha, yesterday I almost go to that beach because if it’s the one I have in mind it’s pretty much always unattended and empty. I wound up in some rocky area more in the north, swimming with some fishermen around doing their thing.

I hope no fish got covid because of me.

Just by way of counterpoint to the “all old people are stupid and selfish and have a death wish” meme, I’d just like to put this out there. The effect is slightly spoiled by the fact that it’s a bank commercial.

185 New Cases + 15 deaths.

Looks better ! Numbers going down and none in Kao. Hope keep up the lower numbers.

 trend is good trend

But as today is a holiday is this from lower testing?

Not sure about today’s numbers as we only did ~17k tests yesterday. TPR has a small uptick to 1.1% from 0.6-0.8% last week. We may go back to 350+ tomorrow…

Airline workers who haven’t been vaccinated or have recently received one of 2 doses still have the 5 day quarantine plus 9 days of self-health management.

Those with 1 dose from at least 2 weeks prior are on 3 days quarantine and 11 days self-health management.

Fully vaccinated then no quarantine, only 7 day self-health management.

Brian Hioe was recommenced by William Yang as a source of English translation as he was taking the day off.

EDIT:

Starting from 7/1 this will be changed: changes will be that those with no vaccine will be changed from 5+9 to 7+7 and those with 1 shot will be changed from 3+11 to 5+7.

The virus doesn’t take a holiday, so the people battling it and reporting on shouldn’t either.

Why not?
don’t you think they deserve a brake with the hard work they do?
you want them to burn out or quite because of stress?

It’s not one person doing it all. They can work in shifts. Different people getting different days off. Imagine if the all police took the weekends off.

front line workers are still working, but the behind the scenes admin and logistics staff etc are off.

To use your police comparison, you can get arrested Friday night or Saturday by the police.
but you’re not in court till Monday and people don’t get released from prison on a Sunday.

Coronavirus is a far greater emergency in my opinion.

So you want. to pay for a logistics team to be on call 24/7 in Chenggong, (or another area where there are few cases) to take in samples every hour, or cut that back a bit in the weekend and put that extra money into getting cover for nursing in Taipei.

I just want them to do on the weekends what they currently do on the weekdays.

If it’s deemed none essential eg some office worker who spends an extra hour a day compiling numbers for that region to send to the cdc.
I would sooner they have a good rest and keep focused on the job.

They just prioritise the testing at weekends.
Then in the week can do all the compulsory testing for travellers who need a test to travel,
or the people who where in a shopping centre the day after someone walked past who tested positive or the people who are on home quarantine and shouldn’t be out in the community anyway.

Quarantine Taipei, give the rest of us a break.
Taiwan Mickey mouse half way lockdown dragging it out for months and months…Maybe till next year. .

Just look at the numbers and tell me that if Taipei had a hard lockdown for a few weeks this wouldn’t be sorted out ?

Just look at the numbers :eyes: :eyes:

I told you guys this is the new normal until CNY. It will take that long to vaccinate enough.

Yeah we know very well I’m just saying there’s another way, not that I expect the authorities to do it.
Proper lockdown is for dirty foreigners only.
If you get R below 1 after a couple of weeks the other small outbreaks will be done and then Taipei needs a bit longer , maybe a month.
People can still go to work but maybe wanhua or banqiao…those specific disticts…No. And no intercounty or city travel.
