Itās not so much that I think this, it just seems to me that this is the direction that most countries are going. You get around 50% vaccinated in Taiwan and Iām not sure why it will be different here.
So we tried today to get a vaccination appointment for a 75 year old in our extended family. The New Taipei City site was not working this morning, probably crashed with too many people online. Taipei City went through nicely.

Anyway, still canāt get the New Taipei City site to open. I am not eligible yet anyway either.
It looks like itās saying you donāt need to have your huji in Taipei but you need to actually live there (no fake addresses, no using anotherās address, etc.). Iām asking because when my time is up, I donāt have faith in the New Taipei City system. But maybe by then theyāll have things worked out.
This time, foreigners in Taipei are instructed to register at a specific hospital again.
Since our attempt went through, I think they just check the NHI, card and you donāt have to provide an address.
They just ask you if you are registered in the city or not.
The fact that you donāt want to test positive for COVID because it would ruin your travel plans doesnāt change the science.
AZ and Pfizer already provide close to 100% protection against hospitalization and death if you get Delta. Most breakthrough infections are mildly symptomatic (cold like) or totally asymptomatic.
Getting vaxxed for the effective immunity it provides makes sense. Injecting people with a cocktail of boosters every x months in a probably futile effort to provide sterilizing immunity in 100% of the population doesnāt.

Plus the science supports me. Adding Pfizer or Moderna on an existing AZ shot or a third booster AZ shot is going to give you even more protection against getting infected with Delta.
Iām not scared of Delta. But itās a big problem getting infected and trying to move around with it in Asia if you havenāt noticed. I donāt think I could return to Taiwan if covid positive.
Most countries are going in that direction? Really?You see random stories talking about it being a possibility. At borders yes. At pubs and restaurants? It isnāt happening in America or the Uk or anywhere else I know of.

For some big events in the Uk, you need to prove it or take a lateral flow test. Canāt see that just to go to the pub though. Could be wrong. I hope it doesnāt come to that.
Yes, I see a slow march in this direction. I also view whatās going on elsewhere as being able to look into a crystal ball for whatās in store for Taiwan. Are they random stories? Yes. But I feel this is the direction, especially after vaccinations have been open for everyone (after everyone has been given a chance to get vaccinated).
I donāt feel strongly one way or the other at the moment. Maybe if I feel some danger for my nine-year-old since he canāt get vaccinated, I will support vaccine passports for indoor locations.
Anyway, this article provides some examples. Yes more random examples. And yes, itās a gut feeling that things are slowly moving in that direction.
