Cost of Italian>Chinese translation?

Hi

Does anyone know the going rate for an Italian > Chinese translation?

I have a document that has about 400 words in Italian. What is the current market rate? The document is a series of simple charts explaining a medical process

(also, where’s the best place to post this kind of question? Language Exchange forum?)

Dear Gus,

I would advise you to contact a REPUTABLE organization to get a referral. There are many translators listed on Proz.com, but you would have to use your own judgement about which would be reputable and professional. Alternatively, you could have it done Italian to English, and then English to Chinese. I can’t guarantee I could read the Italian accurately enough based on my Spanish, unfortunately (that’s assuming I got someone to work with me on the Chinese!! :unamused: )

You could also try the ATA website (American Translators’ Association) for lists of professional translators.

I would NOT have terribly much confidence in this kind of job done locally, to tell the bitter truth. What you’ll get is probably either a Chinese who doesn’t read Italian to the level necessary, or an Italian who goes into non-native English which is then translated into Chinese by — someone. It really is a caveat emptor market in these parts…isn’t it?

Failing that, and going local, about the only place I’d trust would be Pristine.
