Cost of photography equipment and best source for price checking

So I’m on the fence btwn buying Fuji lenses before moving to TW in June, or once I am there.
I clearly remember seeing a Canon 1ds for HALF of its NYC sticker price in a friend’s camera shop back in 2008.
Not sure how this applies to lenses or to today.
I have done a few searched in English and Chinese, but the site’s I can view do not have particularly good pricing.
In the states I can eBay s 56mm 1.2 Lens for $700ish.
Or the 27 pancake for a little over $200 (it’s a $260 lens)

I vaguely remember there are a couple of good streets I Taipei, and have even tried to Google walk them to look at store windows, but no luck.

All advice and opinions welcome.

Buy your lenses before you come over. The 1D at your mates store was mates rates. If you don’t have access to that anymore you will be paying full price with all the associated taxes. Electronics are more expensive in Taiwan and that includes camera equipment.

“Camera street” is no longer very appealing. The two stores I use as reference are:

Taipei: http://www.bigcamera.com.tw/

Taichung: http://www.avi.com.tw/

They have both products with local warranty and imported stuff (usually 1 year warranty, lower price by 20/25/30%). If you don’t mind buying second hand, Taiwan is full of Facebook groups with people buying/selling photography gear, awesome deals to be made.

“eWhat” in Taipei was recommended to me before, I bought my starter gear there. Again also grey imports available there (local warranty through the shop only, they are actually imported from HK as far as I understand)

Suggestions how to find the FB groups?
My Chinese isn’t great, but my translator is fantastic

I used big camera as a reference point when I first bought my xt20 (I thought they where expensive)
I have seen some good Canon glass offered even on this forum, but Fuji is more rare. That said, some of the lenses I look at on eBay ship from Taiwan… So…

Thanks guys
