I know Chinese citizens who have HKSAR pr are eligible for a HK passport, and that this extends to people from Taiwan, but I’m wondering if this includes naturalized Taiwanese?
it wasn’t the case before, but with the more strict policing over TW HHR for people who have any connection to China, acquiring HKSAR passport might lead to revocation of TW HHR and cancellation of the National ID.
Theoretically it is possible though, I would enquire to Immigration Dept of HK. I would tread carefully.
I think it’s doable. You need HHR as well, not just naturalized ROC citizenship. Then get a Taiwan Compatriot Pass. Then do another VEPIC application with HK ImmD, selecting the category for Chinese citizens this time. I wouldn’t worry too much about potential conflicts between HK and TW statuses. Too much is at stake and too many people are affected. Even DPP is not likely to mess with it; not to mention they do not have the votes in Legislative Yuan anyway.
Chinese (not under one way permit) are required to give up their mainland hukou and passport when they get HK PR. The mainlanders under the one way permits even have to give up hukou and passport before getting HK PR (7 years before).
This is just something the government says that you should do, but has no legal backing and no mandatory enforcement. One definitely does not need to cancel mainland hukou before HK would confirm PR/ROA and issue the HKSAR passport. HK ImmD simply give you a piece of paper saying you should cancel your mainland hukou after your HKPR is already confirmed, but will not follow up on it in any way. The only scenario where someone in this situation would actually be required to cancel mainland hukou is if s/he goes to apply for a Home Return Permit. This is also why a HKPR with mainland background is still regarded as a Mainland Area Person, not a HKMO resident, by TW unless s/he can produce a HRP.
