My question is not how to reinstall the TWAIN source, but rather, why does this periodically happen?
I tried to scan something with my old Epson scanner (which I’ve successfully used with Photoshop before) and it gave me a familiar warning: “Could not open the TWAIN source. Make sure there’s a valid source for your scanner in the TWAIN directory found in the Windows directory.”
This is familiar because every once in a while I pull that scanner out, perhaps once every year or so, and several times this TWAIN problem has occurred. I’m assuming that the TWAIN Photoshop plugin is no longer in the folder where I left it last time. Is this correct, or am I misunderstanding the nature of the problem? And why would the plugin keep disappearing? Very frustrating.
The Found New Hardware Wizard activated itself this time, and downloaded some software for the Epson Perfection 1260. Now the scanner works fine. So again, my question is not how to reinstall the TWAIN source, but rather, why does this periodically happen?
I’m on Win XP Pro, btw.
