Couture vs Lesnar!

Can you explain this a bit more (not looking to argue, just looking for clarification!)? I understand that Kimbo’s “Street Tuff Cred” might initially be seen as bad for the sport, but the way I understood it is that he’s really cleaned his act up. I don’t follow his ongoing saga much, so I can’t say for sure. But like I said, I’d heard he was cleaning his act up and training quite seriously.

In any case, have you ever seen the absolutely disgraceful behaviour of those prats in the Ultimate Fighter?! THOSE are a bunch of fuckers who give the sport a bad name. Sure, each season has a few stand-out fighters, but the other guys… what a fucking waste of space and time!

I do understand the loud, flashy part of what you said, though! I thought Lesnar could’ve waited until the final bell had rung before goading Herring (after all, that was a fight which perfectly represents what Marboulette is saying about big guys fighting boring fights and being unable to finish their opponent, and hardly justified his a-whoppin’ and a-hollerin’). His immorality… well, I guess if you’re going to have an erection tattooed on your chest, that’s the vibe you’ll be giving off.

Yet they will always be the people who bring the sport increasing popularity. A necessary evil. Luckily their presence doesn’t detract from outstanding skills and seasoned fighters.

Look, I suppose that in a few years, the big guys will be attractions because of their skill, not because of their size - although having said that I’m very well aware that this has yet to take part in Japan, where freak shows are a dietary staple of MMA fans.

SS: Another comment for the record - I do appreciate finesse. I just call it as I see it otherwise.

Before Kimbo became the star-studded celeb fighter on Youtube, he was the bodyguard for a pimp. While Evan Tanner may have no common sense and deserve the way he ended up, at least he has no links to organized semi-criminal organizations. Kimbo, that really nice guy that Tainan Cowboy described to us, has risen to fame as the man who tackled people full-force on videos produced by porn dealers in exchange for money. While Tito Ortiz might say bad things about people and wear T-shirts with obscenities written on them, at least he is only known for beating trained athletes.

Look Scott, I respect you (a lot) except for the fact that I have to draw the line on your reality regarding the RESPECT you think is portrayed in MMA and the CLASS of the athletes in this sport. Fighters or not; most of these guys are hardcore thugs. Whether you like to admit it or not. The vast majority of the guys in MMA are, indeed, bonefide street kings…period. The Gracie’s have video of brawls on the beach - Rampage admits to being a street fighter before Kimbo during a video about Kimbo - Ken Shamrock loses his goddamn mind every time someone crosses him - Don Frye gets into a drunken brawl in the middle of a hotel lobby and also calls Shamrock out for ending careers by snapping peoples limbs in the ring - Coleman is renowned for his over the top temper via roid rage (or whatever) - BJ Pen swiping blood off Joe Stevenson’s face and then licking the blood from his gloves - Wandelei Silva goes insane and jumps Coleman in the ring after a fight causing a HUGE brawl between both camps - Tito and Shamrock (Enough said) - Tito being a classless spoiled brat (Surprise!) - and HOLY SHIT every season of TUF being nothing but a gong show time and time again. And the king of assholes: Dana White himself! Class? Jesus! I won’t even go so far as to mention the illicit drug usage and alcohol abuse that happens to be the bane of a lot of these guys.

There are fighters with class - GSP, Rutten (yes, even Bas as crazy as he is), Couture, Gonzaga, Sakuraba (minus the Donkey Kong [re:gorilla] reference during his walk out before facing Coleman), Nogeira, Henderson, Ker, Mir, and that’s just to name a few. The problem is that is doesn’t matter how you’d like this debate to go because the fact remains (in my eyes) that bad//classless/disrespectful fighters are most prevalent. That’s provided that you are watching closely instead of living in some sort of dream world where Samurai were Gods and ancient Japan was full of saints. Fact was/is: Samurai were thugs and most of feudal Japan was full of savages and bullies with the only difference being that there was a certain style of that era.

Too bad the Western world’s idea of ‘style’ happens to be who shouts the loudest and who wears the biggest gold chain while driving a fuck off SUV with 25 inch, spinner rims on it (YO YO YO). Hmm simularities? Naw…The current western culture vs the Japanese of old and their cool ass weapons, skill and clothing = no contest. Japan FTW!

Lesnar within 10 mins.

edit I think I know exactly (I’ve been wrong before) why you dislike Lesnar and Kimbo and for the most part it is because their lifestyles and images were/are plastered everywhere in the media in one form or another because you have yet to acknowledge their potential . While the others were left to their own devices which gives them a certain mystery about them. Ah well…oh and uh…Andy Wang - Taiwan’s own…hmmmm…War Wang! hahaha.

edit x 2 @ 2:22am The thing that I think you like is that most of this shit can be settled in the ring with an embrace after a serious boot fuck. I like that too. It shows that these guys, in the end, respect each other. And I do think that Kimbo and Lesnar know and truly feel this facet of (pro/semi pro) fighting very well. Heck, in earlier Internet fights, Kimbo after the fight really does worry about the guys he had kicked around. He may have been fired up but after it was said and done, he went to look after them. Lesnar has a HUGE stigma to battle due to his WWE career in which he’s starving for some respect and in my opinion; he’s getting there.

Again, Lesnar within 10 mins.

Well said and thanks. I agree with you 100% about the way resepct works here. But one thing I have to recommend, you guys gotta read my posts with a better sense of humour. The ‘immorality of MMA’ - and you guys really took this seriously? In fact, I think if you look closely, the difference between MMA and boxing is the demonic influence.

By the way, Tap Out is also funded through pornography.

Ya and they fund Felonyfights.com. Garbage.

You sound like you don’t believe me. Is that true? Would it bother if it were true? If it really bothers you, I provide the evidence. If it won’t keep you awake at nights, I think I’ll just keep the dark secrets of MMA to myself. Really, it’s true.

I agree that some fighters certainly seem to consider MMA as being a discipline more than others do. But face it, most of them are natural brawlers. It takes something “special” to be willing to get hit in the head just so that you can have a chance to hit your opponent harder. But to these guys, it’s a sense of accomplishment. Good enough for me. Let them hurt one another if that’s what feels right to them.

Entertaining, nonetheless.

I do believe you and Tap Out does fund/support FelonyFights.com.

You were serious! I owe you an apology. I looked for this.

There is a Felony Fights video of the openly homosexual and not very talented Shad Smith thrashing some poor guy who thinks he is being tough

Shad Smith is a TapouT fighter.

I was unable to find a direct reference to TapouT and Felony Fights, but it is widely believed among MMA fans and Dana White that this is so.
sherdog.net/forums/f44/punka … om-655795/

The TapouT website used to have links to such adult entertainment spots as Girls Gone Wild. Professional sport in general is full of personal wreaks and morons. But TapouT are certainly an example of some of the flotsam that has accumulated at the fringes of MMA.

THIS SATURDAY!
Saturday night in Las Vegas, Randy Couture will step into an eight-sided ring surrounded by a steel cage and stare down Brock Lesnar, a 31-year-old former NCAA wrestling champion who is six inches taller, at least 40 pounds heavier and 14 years younger. Mr. Couture, who is 45, will then have 25 minutes to knock his opponent unconscious, force him to quit or control him thoroughly enough to win by decision. . .

Sean Van Patten of Las Vegas Sports Consultants, who helps set betting lines for casinos, says he opened with Mr. Couture as the favorite, but as of late Thursday had Mr. Lesner as a very slight favorite. The longer it lasts, he says, the more chance Mr. Couture has to catch Mr. Lesnar in a mistake. To win, Mr. Couture says he will have to hold his ground, counter Mr. Lesnar’s wrestling with better wrestling and, as he put it, “hit him every chance I get.”

“Brock’s game plan is going to be to use his size to overwhelm me, take me down,” Mr. Couture says. “I’m an aggressive person by nature, and in my fighting style, so I’m going to go out and impose my will.”
My money’s on Couture.

I hope this fight lasts a while, and I hope Couture still has it in him to win. At first this might look like a gimmic, with Lesnar having so little experience (3/4 fights), but the betting line has Lesnar as the favorite.

I wonder if Lesnar is going to try to lay on top and stretch the fight out. Couture seems in great shape for 45, but he IS 45 and has to run out of gas sometime.

Please, Randy, win one for us good, old/experienced, smart guys.

Anyone know where in Taipei we can go watch it? It starts at 7 pm PST on Saturday night which should be 11 am Sunday here. Perfect to go with brunch on Sunday! :sunglasses:

The brass monkey will be showing it

It should be a good one…

I’m now torn between the two because I have a lot of respect for Couture and wouldn’t mind seeing him win another one. Yet, I’m still calling this one in Lesnar’s favor within 10 mins.

Every time Couture fights, I hear the same thing. Couture has consistently beat the odds every time he has fought (except once)
betwwx.com/385/ufc-91-odds-a … ing-lines/
Chuck Liddell beat Couture twice while he was in the middle of a divorce. No one has beat him since.

Let’s be honest, if Randy Couture had been on top of Frank Mir, do you think he would have got submitted? If he had been on top of Heath Herring for 3 rounds don’t you think there would have been a TKO? Brock is a big strong athlete and after watching interviews with him, I have to say he seems like a great guy.

Even though Couture votes Republican, there is no way Brock can win. It will be Randy Couture within 3 rounds - TKO. And I’ll back tomorrow afternoon to say I told you so.

OK, OK, I was wrong. I owe you an apology and here it is.

Bummer.

Big Goon TKO’s Skillful Old Champ.

As a Couture fan, I can’t say I am disappointed. You can really see how great a wrestler he really is. Honestly, there he is manhandling 265 pound Brock Lesnar as if he were a kid. Lesnar did not look impressive at all. He was winded, looking red-faced and like he was going to gas at any second. But there is no doubt in my mind how powerful he is. He really only hit Couture the one time that lead to the end of the fight - but that was enough. He has more power in him than I gave him credit for. He was a much, much better fighter than when he fought Heath Herring. Much more disciplined and aware that there is danger if he looses it, as well as patient enough to wait for his opportunity.

I have to give him credit for the amount of work he has obviously put in to developing himself. And as I said above, he really comes across like a great guy and not the screaming maniac you sometimes see in the ring.

Like everyone else now, I want to see him fight Fedor. But he’s going find that’s a whole different game. Or maybe not. I was wrong on this one, so why not with Fedor?

What fight were you watching, Mr.Sommers?

I was almost upset when Couture took that beating. I didn’t want him to go out like that. Lesnar beat him VERY convincingly. The one thing that still stands out in my mind from the fight was how Randy was able to put Lesnar on his back for the first time. Randy pulled some nice tricks that Lesnar needs to sit up and take notice. Other than that, Couture lost. And Lesnar looked good doing it.

Oh and Fedor? Hahahaaha…I think Lesnar and Fedor might be a good match up. They’re both lunatics.
