Today I bashed a few cans flat on my floor.
Not very many - about 2 dozen beer cans.
I put a few newspapers down first to deaden the impact,
and it was all done within 2-3 minutes.
But by this tiime the woman from downstairs had rung the doorbell to complain about the noise!
So I asked granny, my landlady, “Has this woman got some kind of problem?”
And granny confirmed she was nuts about noise.
Seems like the wrong country to be noise intolerant!!!
On a positive note, she was willing to confront you directly and hasn’t begun making knocking sounds on her ceiling/your floor at all different times of the day and night making it impossible to sleep enough, and doing so up until the very day you move out even if it means 20 years from now.

Well that only means you can keep her to the same standards. It’s win-win!

A lot of Taiwanese hate ‘white’ noise. Nothing is more piercing to them than the cackle of crackers, but in your situation it is understandable that they’d be upset. I’d be kind of pissed too if you were stomping on the floor repetitively and might actually try and figure out what was going on. She probably was worried you’d be doing this frequently (like you bought some new workout video and will do it daily) and figured she’d get on that Colombo shit.

Early this evening there was a guy a couple of floors below, either in my block or the one backing on to it, who was talking on the phone for about 15 mins to someone who was either deaf or retarded (or both), explaining over and over that they had to hang up the phone properly when they’d fiinished using it…

Of course its not a ’ “Taiwanese” thing’.
Quite the opposite - the Taiwanese are usually the ones making all the noise.

The time I was still playing badminton these people were making all sorts of loud noises, which actually nerved me during the game … so I thought let’s join them … not a good decision as all eyes turned toward me staring like … WTF are YOU doing! :loco:

The funny thing about all of this is that I rarely reach my full level of volume. Anyone that complains about my levels ain’t seen nothing yet.
I always turn things a bit louder if someone has a problem with my decibels.

I think they just can’t hear themselves … Taiwanese are always talking loud.
