“restitution” is taken into account when it comes sentencing, so yea that means agreeing to compensate the victims in exchange for some leniency.
Did anyone hear about the 21 year old woman who buried her baby in a playground sandbox in Tainan? A kid was playing in there and unburied the baby while playing.
Cant find any articles about it.
Truly horrific and tragic.
This is what happens when sex education and contraceptives aren’t used. Too much shame for wedlock pregnancies so they just have the baby then dispose of the baby.
I am not sure the local attitude towards this.
Sadly, yes. With some crimes there will be some official type punishment but often very light if no body wants to push it harder. Which leads to all sorts of other crimes being committed to convince the victims. It’s one if the pathetic parts of our justice system.
D*** this thread is popping my dumb happy safe bubble about Taiwan.
I was just speaking to a guy yesterday. He was talking about shootings in America.
This never happens in Taiwan. You never hear of someone using a gun.
I was like some guys just shot each other in Ximen. Then i showed him the video of the guy shooting up the shop last year.
I think i ruined his day and burst his bubble. Best not to know local news.
I used to read the Chinese papers. There were crazy murders in there almost every day that often didn’t make it into the English news. Usually were domestics and ex lovers.
Eight shots, right out front of a police station, at 3:30am.
I am incredibly happy we don’t have a gun culture in Taiwan. It’s bad enough with pipes n bats. The road rage here alone would quickly become US styled “OH fuck, again?” type news on repeat.
It’s gangsters, they all got guns.
Here’s some memorable criming: claiming you will blow up Taroko National Park if a ransom is not paid. ![]()
Guy
Maybe he has a nuke…
The name has also been used in previous blackmail incidents.
They were like, “not this f@*king idiot again”.
I heard a news about a guy who crashed a truck into a police station, killing one officer, who then abandoned the vehicle and ran off in another scooter, who then got creamed by a train.
Neither vehicles belong to him.
He is also suspected of hitting and killing a motorcyclist before ramming the stolen truck into the police station.
It sounds like a mass shooting, but with cars.
update on some guy killing cop with trucks:
Guy has mental problem, seems his entire family has mental problems. Says there that he worked at the 4th nuclear power plant as a construction worker… I wonder if it’s the radiation…
Roughly 60 of Bearbrick collectable designer plastic bear figures had been stolen from warehouse in Keelung worth of around NT$5 million.
Police return 18 ‘Bearbricks’ to owner, roughly 40 still missing
Between where you’d started the quote and the preview text, I thought for a moment that Taiwan News couldn’t be arsed subtracting 18 from 60. (But they use “roughly 60” in the article too.)
I added that to the quote. The owner lost count after accumulating so many ![]()
