How does one apply for a criminal background check in Taiwan if they have already left?
You mean you’re outside of Taiwan and have need of a doc showing that you have no criminal record in Taiwan? I assume you would contact the Foreign Affairs Police and ask them how to proceed with such a request. Perhaps someone else has better info?
BTW, the National Police Agency’s contact info last I checked was 0800-024-111, and they had info at iff.npa.gov.tw

Yup!! I’ll check out the link. Thanks.
That phone number answers as the Community Service Hotline, but don’t worry, it’s not related to the Community Services Center in Tianmu. They’re pretty good at answering questions and can give you direct numbers to live people in other agencies like the MOFA if you have trouble getting railroaded by computerized answering systems. BTW, the Chinese for a good citizen record (lack of criminal record) is 良民證 liang2 min2 zheng4.
the link doesn’t seem to work… been trying for a few days now.
I’ll try to check for you; remind me in a few days time by PM if I haven’t posted an answer.
I had to get a police clearance certificate from Taipei while I was in South Africa waiting for my visa for the States. You will need to enlist the help of a friend in TP. I wrote a letter saying I gave my friend permission to do this for me. Posted the letter with my ARC to him in TP. He took this to the FAP and requested it. Apparently a bit of flirting with the officer at the FAP helped the process too… There was a minimal fee, can’t remember what it was now.
Nevertheless, I got it, submitted it to the US embassy and they accepted it as it was.
