Join us on a field trip to a real fossil museum and learn about dinosaur bones (T-Rex, etc) and other prehistoric animals (Mammoth, Ancient Rhino, etc). In today’s field trip/excursion, we learn how to roller skate for kids at a colorful roller rink.

I teach kids the basics of roller skating with short tutorials, such as:
-how to roller skate forward,
-turn left and right,
-stop on roller skates, and
-roller skating backwards.

But I’m only human, and even I make some mistakes…I accidentally fall down on my backside at 6:45 - It really hurt!

That’s why I then teach kids about falling safely on roller skates, and to do their best to bend down low or use their knee pads if they’re about to fall.

We also encourage kids to use roller skating safety gear, such as knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and helmets.

Roller skating for kids can be so much fun! We even show kids how to do fun activities like:
-beginner dance moves on roller skates, and
-how to play roller skating games like the obstacle course cone game, the colorful scoop game and the monkey race game.

// WHO IS MR ALBIE?
Mr Albie has worked as a teacher in classrooms for several years in Sydney, Santiago & Tainan. Also, worked for an education technology app based in Chicago for some years. Plus, managed School Meals Feeding programs to improve education & health for vulnerable school kids in Cox’s Bazar. // WHY I DO THIS?
When I was a new dad, I felt awkward and nervous around my young kids and didn’t know how to talk or connect well with them. I was always so serious, and would rather be reading something, always in my own head - and frankly being selfish or maybe I just didn’t know better. My wife suggested that I should spend more time with the kids by actually teaching them things, and sharing my passion for learning with them. I did that, and over several months and years, I discovered that I connected more with them by learning new things with them. But it was important to do it in a way that appealed to them as kids. So it had to be fun!

Over time, it turns out that I’ve learned so much from them too about creativity, joy and family - plus many other things that I can’t simply read from a book. Cub Wings is an extension of this journey of learning and adventuring, brought to you by our family. We are NOT a media conglomerate. I’m NOT a professional actor. Just a dad who loves geeking out with his kids on “learning adventures”, and sharing these with other kids along the way.

VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR EXHIBIT:
Let’s explore the Very Hungry Caterpillar Exhibit of Eric Carle. In this field trip in Taiwan, we do a storytelling performance of the caterpillar eating through the week. Then, we do Very Hungry Caterpillar activities like making butterfly wings with colors, shapes & paper.

This exhibit has been going around Taiwan, and was filmed in the Tainan exhibit.

This video helps kids:

• get excited about reading books, especially the Very Hungry Caterpillar
• learn numbers, colors and days of the week
• learn names of the fruits that the caterpillar ate
• learn how Eric Carle, the author and artist, painted the Very Hungry Caterpillar
• get inspired to create artworks that express themselves in a unique way

My kindergarten teacher Ms Bonnello read the Very Hungry Caterpillar book to us many years ago in my Kindy-Blue class. I still remember us kids sitting in front of her quietly, legs crossed, staring in excitement and anticipation. The book was unique. It had beautiful art. There were interactive pages where we could fit our little fingers through the holes just like a caterpillar. Plus, it had a simple story about change and growing up. We even made a butterfly painting afterwards. Mine was so colorful and I was so proud.

Now that I’m older, I’m happy to share and pass on this great book to our kids and others. In this learning adventure to the official Very Hungry Caterpillar Exhibit, I tell the story in a funny, active way, and share some of my unique commentary so kids can get involved too.

Eric Carle also passed away recently, so this is our way to continue on his legacy, and recognize the impact he’s had on me and other kids around the world.

Here’s a fun, family-friendly kids event Taiwan, that encourages reading, and something that you could check out with your kids, too.

We do “The Very Clumsy Click Beetle” activities based on Eric Carle’s book. We go to the official exhibit, meet the Click Beetle, play with a flipping machine & pretend to be click beetles in long grass. Then, we do Very Clumsy Click Beetle DIY crafts, showing kids how to make your own Click Beetle that really flips!
