I am in need of two solid pieces of wood of specific dimensions:
There’s the big hardware store that might (or might not) be able to do it, but maybe there are lumber stores I should be looking at?
For quality work find a cabinet maker.
My first impression: this is likely not something the Hardware stores offer. As far as I saw they can indeed cut wood for you, but seem to be restricted to cutting pieces of wood board into smaller pieces. Not this kind of random shape with all sides angled…
@Taiwan_Luthiers might know what kind of machines are necessary for that and what shops could have them. Maybe even he could offer this service?
As above i normally get this stuff done by a local joiner/ wood yard, if thats inches your going to have to convert to mm, unless you want to trust them to do the conversion.
It’s really just one angle cut per piece. They just need to be a block of the right outer dimensions and then cut across the “top” at an angle. Still might be difficult for some places.
It’s cm already
Any help on finding a good place? I searched google for “lumber” and found a lot of places that look like small shops only selling precut wood, or can do simple resizing only.
The first piece you just need someone with a table saw or bandsaw - if you can find one of those places that does shop remodelling, I bet they’d do it for you. The second piece looks awkward. IMO you’d have to do that with a router followed by a power plane - it’s not a “straight cut”. And you’ll have a tough time finding a board 42cm wide (standard dimensional lumber usually doesn’t go beyond 12").
If you can find the wood, I’m guessing @Taiwan_Luthiers could do the work. But you might want to rethink your design.
You will find it quite easy here, they like the big single piece table tops, also if you dont mind ply you can get 21mm marine plywood in standard 2440x1220mm sheets.
i often find stuff in reclaimed woodyards that look like this at the side of the road
That’s going to be an expensive piece of hardwood, though, right? And they might not want to cut 2.5’ off a nice table-sized board.
I’m just wondering if the OP could use a piece of MDF or HDF. Depends what he’s trying to build, I guess.
They will do what you want along as you pay for the full board, i dont know what the OP is willing to pay or what its used for.
Could even use foamed PVC or folded aluminium composite with a real wood veneer, again all depends on use and cost. I assume the OP wants a wood for a reason thats why they asked for it.
Depends where you are. As suggested by Shaun008 you should look for any 木村工坊/行 in your area. Or you could try visiting the wood carving shops in Sanyi in Miaoli County.
That’s going to be machining, no lumberyard is going to cut wood at an angle for you like this, best they will do is cut it to your dimension but the taper is something that’s going to require shop time. Are the dimensions in mm or cm?
I can use the bandsaw to cut the second piece, the first piece you can use a hand plane.
Shop rate is 650 per hour, 1 hour minimum.
There are a ton of shops along this street. I’ve seen a custom cutting shop that was cutting wood along here. All sorts of metal shops here too. They have a machine that makes computer cuts to your material.
There was a great wood shop at the north end of this street but Google maps shows the building is now gone for new construction. It was a great shop that had all sorts of wood and would make cuts but it seems they are history. I’m guess the old man might have retired although he might have another location in operation. On the road at the north end of this street, turn west and there is another wood shop that sells plywood and makes basic cuts.
Very saddened the old shop is gone. It’s only been a year since I visited them last. I made all sorts of things from that shop.

Ask around in this neighborhood. They will tell you where you need to go nearby. This is in Taipei.
