I imagine Obama might prefer some place with a little different reputation than Carnegies, or a least someplace with no reputation. Maybe a nice restaurant or hotel lounge or someplace not assocated with drunks and *luts.
The mezzanine at Carnegie’s is reserved for our event and based on our experience using that room for our previous get-together, it worked well. That said, thanks for the reminder to poll the membership Thursday night to get a sense of where folks prefer to book future gatherings.

Donations can only be accepted from Americans and that limits who can participate in the raffle. Otherwise, everyone is welcome as long as they’re friendly.
On a serious note, one topic we’ll be discussing is the rule change that’s going into effect Aug. 15th:

The result of the change could mean delays of months or years in the application process. We’re working to find answers for our membership affected by this upcoming change.
It was a good event, and the raffle had some really cool stuff – T-shirts from the inauguration, donkey lapel pins, etc. The food and drink were excellent (the new clams dish… mmmm), and the people were wonderful – a nice mix of good and old friends with new folks. The upstairs room is something I highly recommend as a venue for private meetings.
There was some good info regarding the I-130 changes that kicked in August 15th here in Taiwan and in countries around the world. The change to I-130 visa applications are going to make a big difference for the repatriation of Americans with non-US-citizen spouses or kids – what used to be a process that the AIT guys here could do pretty rapidly is now going to take months or years because every little question will have to go back and forth by mail to a Chicago-based “lockbox.”
