Dance classes

hi! i’m looking for a good dance studio/classes (modern, ballet, jazz, hip-hop etc.), as professional level as possible (not the kind you take at a gym).

i have visited one called wu-yi (near taipei main) but they have very little modern there (i guess that’s primarily what i’m looking for…that’s my background). ive been here for almost a year, have talked to what seems like a million (taiwanese) dancers and there seems to be very little in the way of professional dance training for adults, aside from university programs (like at tnua). so maybe there is a blessed soul on forumosa who can point me the right direction.

i’d also be happy to learn other stuff—traditional/classical chinese dance/acrobatics!

anyone? anyone? i’m rotting over here… :help: …thanks…

Where can I find a dance class in english in Taipei or Taiperi count, Preferable hip hop but anything would be great!

Up and down Zhongxiao East Road Section 4, and on the side lanes, are quite a few dance schools (at least 6 or 7 that you can see from the road) and all have a few classes in English. Hip-hop, break/pop/jazz, latin, salsa…Go exploring.

There’s a belly dancing school on the SE corner of Zhongxiao & Songshan.

Hi,
I am looking for a dance studio (preferably in the Shida or Taida area) which has more traditional style dance classes, such as ballet, modern, lyrical and tap dance. I have noticed that most studios here teach hip-hop and street jazz, but that’s not what I am looking for. Also, if you know of any good yoga studios or classes, that would be helpful. Thanks.

Would flamenco interest you? Swing? Folk dance (Taiwan aboriginal, Turkish, Israeli, belly dancing…?

For yoga, please search to find the several other threads asking the same thing. I suggest you also search for the names of specific dance styles - you might find something.

For hip-hop classes check this other thread.

There are also swing dance classes available through Taipei Swing. Find us online at www.swingisland.blogspot.com or through our Facebook group, Taipei Swing.

Hey humuhumu, I’m looking for modern classes also. I see that your post was in february so, i’m wondering if you found a good school? I’d really appreciate it!

hi there! i’ve been here about 9 months and i think i’ve dropped by most of the studios in downtown taipei. my conclusion in the end: there are many choices for beginners classes but you will only find advanced classes for classical styles such as ballet, contemporary ballet and chinese classical. PM me if you’d like to know which studios ive been to, the WuYi one mentioned in the original 2006 post seems to have the most qualified instructors however the classes are super packed by nontrained dancers and not very skill-building.

i am actually classically trained, but these days live a civillian life. i just started learning contemporary “pop” styles before my move to taiwan, i’m desperately looking for contemporary lyrical jazz or advanced hiphop classes, but would be open to ANY sort of bootcamp paced class.

seeing that this thread has almost 300 views, i wonder if enough of us got together, if we could rent a studio and run our own workshops?

Hey,

I would like to know where I could find a lesson of classical or modern jazz dance on Taipei.
I would like to find not expensive lesson.
Do you know organism or assocition?

Thanks a lot

Anne

Maybe a little bit off topic but since it was asked in an earlier post, I found such organization as Dance Works via Google Search. They hold tap dance classes for adults. I’m a huge fan of tap  If any of you guys are also interested in tap dance, here’s their web page: http://www.danceworks.com.tw/Studio_112/index.html
Cheers,
Britta

Well, actually, you can rent a studio room at the Community Center in Da’An.

I’m going there soon (hopefully) cause I want to take some bellydance, samba, etc classes.

I can give you the contact info for a salsa dancer (foreigner, professionally trained) giving lessons in the city if you are interested
