Dating American Style

Its a minefield out there for first dates. Assuming you even get to the first date stage. Then how did the date go? Horror stories abound. Its time to have a laugh bout some of them:

anyone got any funny/horror stories bout first dates? The last one i was on was before i met tammy and that was what 15 some years ago? Went out with someone i met on Craigslist, supposedly for coffee as a first meet up. She suggested a restaurant which I reluctantly agreed to and of course it was a set up, she just wanted a MEAL at my expense. Lucky it wasn’t much. But was a lesson learned. Another one shortly after on same website, different woman was one who wanted to meet at a starbucks for a coffee (so far so good) then asked for ride home a few blocks away and suggested picking up a box of chicken for some friends at home…yup..expecting me to pay. it wasnt much. Another lesson learned. Those were some horror stories before i met tammy and ended going out on these initial meet ups.

Now i am back in the game, but not going on on games…lol.

Men’s worst dates are usually amusing, women’s worst dates are usually scary.

My worst date is an exception to that rule. She was completely mental and kept trying to get me into fights with guys. She kicked the crutches away from one guy who had a leg in a cast. I did a runner when she went to a bathroom.

I think the worst date I was ever on was when online dating was still very niche and nerdy. This would’ve been back in 2004 or 2005 and before dating apps but there were still websites like Match. I arranged a date with someone who sent me a pic that made them appear a certain way but when I picked them up they appeared very differently! They say there’s plenty of fish in the sea, but I had no intention of hooking a whale!

She smelled bad, complained about the music I was playing in the car, swamped my passenger seat with rolls of fat, had the conversational skills of a garden snail, and rejected my suggestion of a high rated local Italian restaurant in favor of ‘Olive Garden’ (which she said was her favorite “Italian” restaurant).

Once there and seated facing this rotund date of mine, I immediately wanted to get out as quick as I could. I was only 21 or so at the time and very immature and I’m not exactly proud of this, but I excused myself to “use the bathroom” before we had even ordered. Instead I snuck out of the restaurant and ditched her with no lift to get back home. I admit it was not a nice thing.

The next day she blew up my phone with all sorts of texts calling me “crazy” and “asshole” and so on. Probably deserved. Then I think I blocked her. I think I gave up on online dating soon after only coming back when it became really big and mainstream with the dating apps like Tinder a decade later.

I’ve probably had worse dates that I’ve forgotten but that’s the one that immediately comes to mind right now.

Yea the misleading photo thing really is a thing. I’ve met more than one girl who where I was like hi, bye.

I don’t feel too bad as they are the ones bullshitting.

Yeah why bother with misleading pics I mean they gonna see you right ?

My first Blind date was totally blind no pics
So I told myself I would meet her and have a coffee and that was it ….if I liked her we would spend more time together

She tuned out of be an absolute grand slam knock it out of the park

Should’ve handled that one better and maybe marry her

Same, and she was the *ugliest woman I have ever seen, before or since.

I really felt sorry for her actually, but at the same time no way in hell was there going to be a second date!

* she had some kind of genetic skeletal issue, her arms were extremely long and her legs were extremely short, all of her joints were shaped oddly, sort of bulbous. Her face was symmetrical, but parts of her skull also seemed to have grown at different rates, so she was a bit pop-eyed and it was hard to say what exactly was wrong with it but her jaw just didn’t go with the rest.
On top of all that, she was downright emaciated - zero meat on dem bones!

yeah i went on a Movie buddy date here in berkeley 15 years ago with a lady bout my age, american chinese. She had a very nice looking body but unfortunately you really needed a bag over her face. She was regretably not good looking to say the least. . I just couldn’t ask her out for a second date. I mean "movie buddy " was like a “language exchange” with the potential to be gf/bf. So ,sorry no beating around the bush on that one. Its sad that she was less than plain. Neutral at least will be good but she was negative on the scale of 1 to 10. I mean a 4 or 5 may work.

i mean ok, now that im probably less than good looking myself if that happened today id give it a second consideration  Two minuses could be a plus.

Yeah, it was bad enough when I was last on the dating scene over a decade ago. Nowadays it seems practically impossible with all the filters and photoshop apps available and even AI assists.

Nowadays they might even be an AI.

I had a blind date (though she sent a photo, and after arrival she looked a bit more heavy, maybe old photo) from a friend like this here in KHH many years ago. Went for afternoon tea, she wanted dinner after and I wanted no part of that, I tried be nice and say I needed to do something else later, she ask a lot of questions why and still pushed me to have dinner (texted a friend then to come meet the me cafe and went with her to dinner, my treat)

i’m a 6’ tall woman. I’ve had very awkward dates where the guy is visibly surprised that i’m taller than them. usually it’s because they lied about their height.

weird thing is i don’t hide my height at all, it’s the first thing in my dating profile and when i meet people, im usually wearing normal shoes.

when i was 18 i went of my first date ever (from tinder) and the guy texted me afterwards saying that he didn’t expect me to actually be “that tall” and would not like to meet again because of that. i was a bit taller than him.

im still confused to this day. why would I lie about being taller as a woman. boys are weird.

I met a girl once who was basically the same height as me, which wasn’t what she listed. I asked and she said yea she writes her height online a little shorter so as to not put guys off.

I’m confused as to why guys are so repulsed by that.

Shrug. Weirdos.

I’m 183 cm tall (used to be 184 cm but I shrunk with age). 183 cm is exactly 6 feet. Having lived in Asia for so long and being taller than the vast majority of girls here, I find tall girls attractive as this is so rare in this part of the world. Not trying to flirt or anything. I’m an old dude and been married forever. Just trying to let you know there are guys who would actually find that attractive.

Most guys would rather feel (comparatively) taller than shorter? Repulsed is a strong word though.

American women don’t know when to let you talk . You gotta steer the conversation with them…

Perhaps. But lying about ones height on the profile, seeing that woman has height listed and it’s taller than you are, and then being upset enough about this freely admitted fact after the date… Certainly sounds rather sour.

Different strokes, I guess. Never bothered me.

Yeah, that guy’s behavior doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Many years ago, in my early 20s, I went on a few dates with a crazy girl. On the last date I was driving her home when she grabbed the car’s steering wheel, trying to steer my car into oncoming traffic.

Earlier she told me how her brother and father sexually abused her when she was a child.
