Dear Frankie is in the video rental shops right now. I picked it up purely on spec cos I didn’t have my glasses and couldn’t read any more than the title.
I was very pleasantly surprised indeed. No car chases or exploding buildings or anything, but a beautifully crafted family drama incredibly well-presented and very touching without being sickly.
Even better (for me, at least), it’s set in Scotland – Greenock and Glasgow to be precise.

Watched the trailer for this many, many times, glad you liked it, I’m quite fond of Gerard Butler, and Emily Mortimer (as IrishStu well knows) is verrry hot, in a real uncomplicated hometown way.
Looked like it struck the balance well between being touching and ickily sentimental…
