Noticed a friend using ChatGPT in a conversational manner to answer a bunch of questions and that peaked my interest. So I asked her about it. ITs apparently like calling a bud who is super knowledgeable about anything and everything. She askes a question and the ChatGPT answers back conversationally.
I asked her about it and she said there is a free version but shes using this 20/month version. I was like wow cool, but in true tommy fashion am NOT about to spend 20/month for an Ai anwerbot.
So i thought why not check out Deep Seek so i installed it on my cell and im very pleased. You ask it a question and it types out like 5 to 10 pages of an answer in perfect english. It wont converse with you, you need chatgtp for that. But hey , its FREE and thats a word that stirs my soul.
I don’t understand why people are even bothering to use it and giving these companies your data and allowing them to gobble all the RAM, increasing prices when you can run LLMs on your own computers.
yeah all queries are saved in chinese servers as well as asnwers. they must have giant earth sized data servers to save all the godzillion info bits. most of it will be totally useless. The questions i ask? who wants to save em ?
can you imagine some questions i ask and it answers and it uncovers through my question some earth shattering beneficial info to the CCP? yea i cant either. And yea you do know that any queries in our browser is saved now too. Thast why so many people who do crimes its later revealed that they searched for info online that was related to their crime.
everything you type is probably saved somewhere. The CIA is the biggest savers of info probably.
If you want an easy solution (though I don’t know if you can run it from your phone), you can use Ollama (https://ollama.com/) and download a local model. Some of the Phi and Mistral ones have “mini” versions that should run in most computers. Ollama has a graphical interface for Windows and MacOS, so it’s very easy to use.
well the basic one doesnt “talk” to you conversationally. So it was useful to her to have a personal talking assistant. And watching her use it, it seemed pretty cool. She found it worth 20 bucks a month. I did not. IM sure ChatGpt saves anything i would type on it as well if i signed up for it.
im no techie but i will check it out when i have time. Meantime i think its pretty cool the long answers i get to my myriad questions. It cautions that not everything it says is true, its just pulling together info from other sites. Thats what the ai does it pulls info saving me from having to do it. Having to google it and see which web page presents a likely answer, Ai does that for you.
So far im liking it. And it responds in perfect english . It recognizes my speech very well ,much better than siri. So its got some strong ass tech behind it.
thats very true and I have an idea wny not NOT do that and save a whole lot of data needing to be saved. If Deep and Chat etc just saved info for 24 hours max that would mean a whole lot less data that needed data banks wouldn’t it? I mean of what use is one user’s query about the reason why London is foggy or some such?
so I found out this is not true, the basic one does talk to you. And I am using it now. And about Deep being able to be saved on your puter so you don’t even have to be online, that is useful but it seems to be a bit difficult to do? at least to me.
chat I find useful for a lot of basic stuff and being able to just talk to it seems to make it easier. For example I got a new TV and it has Roku instead of fire stick so I asked about the difference before buying it. And also during the set up phase I had a bit of trouble setting it up and Chat walked me thru it. Also walked me thru how to put Chat onto my Lenovo chromebook as the computers own play store didn’t have it. So it told me to go to the website Google Play and download it there and where to find it on the launcher and also how to two finger to double click (I didn’t know that lol) from the launcher to save it onto the icon list on the bottom. So all in all useful for simple stuff.
I think people learning English can also benefit from these smart Ai bots
