Disaster! WeCare bakery has gone belly up

Late last week, I walked by the outlet that used to be on Chung-Xaio sec 5 across from the Geant, and they were moving equipment and display cases out, and sweeping and cleaning up. I think that one is toast. (pardon the pun)

Okay, I went by the Qizhang WeCare and a replacement bakery has been established in its place called IS. Bread looks identicalL while wheat, potato rye, country white, etc. I asked the xiaojies about the flavor and they said it is pretty much the same as WeCare. I don’t know the word for ingredients so I couldn’t ask abotu that. Would like to comfirm that it is still made with olive oil not lard and so on.

I am now enjoying a mozarella and tomato and turkey breast sandwich on the potato rye. Pretty tasty.

Good news, MM. Thanks.

That is good news!

If the bread truly is the same or as good as before, we’ll have cause to be most thankful to the new operators.

I’m hoping you’ll be able to scope that out. BTW, how do you say “What are the ingredients in this bread?”

Ingredients are chengfen. So you can ask “Zhei zhong mianbao de chengfen shi shenme?” or “Zheige mianbao de chengfen shi shenme?”

Xie xie.

The one on Xinyi is for sale and empty. And interestingly enough (or not) the really shitty one on the corner of Xinyi and Jinshan which smelled like rotting garbage the one time I was tempted to enter because of the enticing bread smell blowing outside has also shut down.

Where will I get my Saturday morning cinnamon sticky buns now? :frowning:

The one on Donghu Road (in Donghu, natch) is going to be a bakery once again, but I don’t know if the products will be the same.

My wife dropped by the Qizhang shop. IS Coffee bought the WeCare chain which is why the shop is now IS Bakery. Wasn’t clear if they will open more stores but I would assume so.

The bakers at the Qizhang bakery are the same fellows from when it was WeCare.

That’s a very smart move by IS. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be a great profit-earner if competently managed. And if the new owners are really smart, they’ll keep the products as close as possible to how they were before .

It bodes well that they’ve retained the former WeCare staff.

shipai outlet still busto, apparently.

I’ve just tucked into my first loaf of “five grain” bread from the new IS Bakery in Qizhang. It looked and tasted the same as its WeCare counterpart, the only discernible difference being that it cost NT$50 instead of NT$45.

Yes, but is the chengfen the same?

Alas, the wife bought the bread, and chatted with the girl there about everything else (the refunds on the old WeCare discount coupons, how she’d been learning to make bread since WeCare closed, and so on), but omitted to inquire about the ingredients.

Very funny. My wife did the exact same thing.

Contrary to what I thought I previously saw, the WeCare outlet that used to be on Chung-Saio E. Rd. sec 6 across from the Geant, is back up and running as IS Bakery. I bought a few of the usual things I used to buy at WeCare and they were pretty much exactly the same. Whew! Relief!

checked the store that reopened on chenggong rd
name is Bel Dore
almost same stuff as wecare before BUT
the previously lovely baguette is a no go now
while still crispy on the outside it tastes like cardboard
:-/
but they got some nice cookies there.
i guess they serve the more taiwanized version now

That could be the NT$5 that keeps IS Bakery afloat where WeCare sunk. Having a good product is no good if it’s not making you any money, unless you’re a charity.

Uptown next to Chungshan Snr HS MRT has decent baguettes - 2 types - in the afternoon.

Just FYI - The We Care outlet that was on Roosevelt Rd. near Tai-Da is still closed, not replaced with anything replicating what We Care used to sell. I was by there last week.
