DIY electronics shop

Thought I would never ask for this, but look like the time has come.
I have seen this place in San Chong where I thought they sold everything until Stian decided to build a PWM motor control.
I need a LM2917 to convert RPM into a analog voltage signal and two MIC502 to control two electric motors.
Would need a lot of other stuff to, but this seams to be the things that are the hardest ones to get.

Don’t know about Sanchong, but the basement stores across from GuangHua are amazing for this. There is one two floors down that’s basically a DigiKey catalog with quite amazing qty 1 prices.

BTW, anyone know where to source either double-layer supercaps or ultracaps locally?

I need ones that are a kilofarad or so at 2.5ish volts. The 3000 farad ones would be ideal.

On the other side of the freeway bridge? I heard about this, but I thought it was in the GuangHua building and newer found it. Got to check that out.

I think it’s the one downstairs, through the entrance to the yellow antiques plaza.

No, it’s not the entrance to the antiques plaza, it’s either down the road just past it and then downstairs or up to the corner (just before the seating area) and then downstairs. There’s also a shop above ground just opposite to the entrance behind the antiques plaza.

hopefully this does it.

btw, i have found this method indispensable in taipei for giving and getting directions. it also works on iphones using the home+lock key screenshot method.

there are two good stores on the first floor down. if you are looking for very specialized ICs, go down another floor, walk as far as possible on this floor from the stairs and you will see a brightly lit store in the far corner that sells pretty much only ICs and passives.

the above ground store LostSwede refers to is good for bigger components, but the ones in the basement are cool because they are so… underground…

btw, if you are going to be controlling anyway, could you simply just use a PIC or whatever other microcontroller (eg HC11/12) that you like? the 2917 just seems kinda old school.

It do what I want it to do in a quite simple way

Makes sense to me. You building something to go on a bike/car?

You see straight trough me
I entered B1 in a building there today, but there it was quite a few midleaged men and quite a few porn movies.
Did not buy anything, but now I know where to go if I need some fresh inputs.
Found the rigt place on second atempt and got the LM2917 from a old woman in a tiny store in B2.
The mic502 was something I was not able to source. I will ask the wife to contact directly with a micrel distributors tomorrow. The rest like resistors, capasitors and mosfet should be something I could find anywhere.

There’s another cluster of electronics components stores around the corner of 中華路一段
Section 1, ZhōngHuá Rd and LuòYáng St 洛陽街.

On ZhōngHuá Rd itself, there is a large shop with cabinets full of active components in the
basement. I also saw a lot of RF connectors on the first floor when I went yesterday.

Across from Fu Xing Elementary, hidden next to the temple on LuòYáng there is one set of
stores. There is a tube transistor store on LuòYáng.

Going down further down LuòYáng there are shops that will wind coils on spec (according
to my dad) .

There used to be the Xin Ning Electronics Market at the corner of XinNing and LuoYang.
But now mostly (15-20ish) small shops selling KTV/home theater equipment. There are 4 or
5 smaller electronics stores left at that market. There is yet another shop that
specializes in tube transistors at market.

I usually visit those stores for all my components too… If you can’t find the exact component you need usually there is a compatible part you can use.

Talking of DigiKey, not sure if you know but they have now opened a Taiwan site, and can deliver locally… digikey.com.tw/
