Right. So if there is a group of six people, and only five of them understand Mandarin or Taiwanese, yet the group speaks Mandarin or Taiwanese, that isn’t the most effective way of communicating their ideas, assuming that all six of those people is supposed to be in that group for whatever reason.
Again, people who are talking to each other, with no obligation or intention of talking to someone who doesn’t speak their language, can certainly use any language they wish. But when the choice of a language leaves people out who are supposed to be included, that’s when the problems start.[/quote]
What if the business meeting was at a jo dien? it’d be very rude to speak english in a room full of chinese speaking female staff.
Currently my only work is doing research in my advisor’s lab. I speak English with the other students when they feel like practicing their English or when we have to give an oral report in English.
