As in could you bike from Taipei to Hsinchu or Miaoli on a Ubike and park it with no problem? Or is it tied to the specific district?
You can, but should pay additional fee.

I guess it means you can return it in the nearest station, regardless if you are in Taipei or Taoyuan
Enter Linkou, New Taipei and Guishan, Taoyuan. Rent a Youbike from A9 Linkou MRT station and return them about a km away to A8 Changgung Hospital MRT station… then you were charged with (say minimum fee 200). Even taking taxi cost cheaper than that. Taipei/New Taipei to Taoyuan correctly done.
You guys Will be pleased to know that Kaohsiung now has ubike, but isn’t on the chart, so bike from anywhere to kaohsiung and it’s free!
