I’d say that dog is definitely sentient.
There’s a dog who will forever have trust issues vis-a-vis her human.
The way I read it is that the dog figured he could make an appeal to his owner’s humanity instead of taking a more aggressive approach, and his owner proved him right. But I’m a cow, so what do I know?
True, but maybe the dog is now wondering what her human is likely to get up to when her back is turned …
I’m assuming it was dad who made the appeal. With the mother, instinct probably would have kicked in and produced a more aggressive response.
Dogs will eat their young not as much in hunger but under duress, extreme stress or fear. A mother will devour her kids to protect them by getting them back in the womb if she feels they are threatened by other dogs…or humans.
Indeed, not nice of the owner to play tricks with such a serious instinct.
