I’d say it was a sports bike. Just a throw-me arround, spin the wheel, lit the front, drag anybody kind of sport, rather than a top speed kind, which is kind of passé these days, and totally impractical on a big bore bike here in Taiwan. This HyperMotard is much more appropriate fun for Taiwan.
As for a silly name, it is a ‘furthering’ of the name Supermotard, which is the French word for the popular European streetbike class you get by putting stiffer shocks and slick tyres onto a chookchaser (Aussie word for a big off-road single like a KTM). Actually, I wonder what that Hyper would be like with knobbies on, and an Acerbis long range tank… like a 35 Litre tank for outback travel. Maybe seen in the paris dakar soon.
