DVD/MPEG2 to pocket PC. Also picture too small?

Is there a freeware program that will convert unencrypted DVD/MPEG2 to Pocket PC WMV or MPEG1?

When I use my DVD authoring programs to change MPEG2 to MPEG1, I get really crazy results.

(There’s no problem going the other way! I can take even the worst wmv or mpeg file and make a decent DVD!).

When I sync video to via the media player, the video appears the size of a postage stamp. It’s not enjoyable at all to watch.
So, the question is two fold.

  1. How do I down-convert the video to a usable format?
  2. How do I take wmv’s that appear normal on my PC and transferring them to my pocket pc at a watchable size.

(I’ve read that it is because my pocket pc has a better resolution then the original pocket pc. But why haven’t they built in a compensation feature into media player? )

The only video that seems to play fine is mpeg1 using the Pocket TV application.

Thanks in advance.

At this point I’d take a sarcastic reply like “google it!”

Doesn’t anyone have a pocket PC? Doesn’t anyone need to go from DVD MPEGII to MPEG1?

I’ve Googled my eyes out and found more than eight paid solutions. Some worked well but they only gave me ten minutes.

My DVD authoring programs (Ulead visual studio 6 ) create great DVD’s, even from very low quality video. But, when I take a DVD or MPEG2 format and convert it to a lower format I get many strange things.

  1. Sometimes there is no sound
  2. Some times it will start normally then skip really fast to the end of the file. The play back looks like Charlie Chappliin for just a mess appears on the screen.

There must be a free solution. If not, which one should I buy.

I looked. Can’t see any. Do you have a copy of PowerDVD? It’s mostly free.

I am looking in alternate sources. Updates as events warrant.
