Earthquakes -- 2012

It wasn’t even close to being an imminant death experience. It was so short, was nothing like the 9/21 I went though.
He means that when it starts, you do not know if it is going to be the Mother of All Quakes or just a wobbly wobbly earth dance. Lemme tell you, when glass starts shattering and the street lights bend like palm trees under heavy wind, well, it’s kind of unexpected, most of the time.

Why don’t they invent a friggin’ quake detector, dimmit?!

that’s it! you are forced to realise the probable futility of all your actions to escape so you just have to wait…

:sleepy:

Eh?

I was partying at MiCasa late and slept through it all (near Taipei Main Station). My girlfriend was sleeping beside me and woke me up
Her: “Did you feel that?”
Me: “Feel what?”

Felt it in all the way over in Xiamen.

Was sitting at my desk, getting ready to examine an IELTS candidate and felt a a few wobbles.

At first I thought I was having a seizure. Seriously.

Then a colleague told us at lunch break a 6.5 hit the Wan. Don’t really miss the feeling - it really does feel like the seizures I had a few years back :s

Reading this thread I now realize just how late I got up this [strike]morning[/strike] afternoon.

Most certainly felt it in Taitung city, felt like I was on a boat, swaying… enough to make me leave the house and make sure it wasn’t going to repeat itself. Incredible that it traveled across Island and through the mountains!!

Earthquake? What earthquake?

That’s what I love about Danshui…we didn’t feel sh*t  :sunglasses:

Not true, I’m in Danshui, and I definitely felt it.

and I thought my apartment moved because I suddenly got up :roflmao:

Where r u at? I’m at the northern part of Danshui…didn’t have a clue we had a big one today.

I live on Xin Chun St, 9th floor, whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on this morning. I usually feel all of 'em if I’m at home when they occur.

Froggers, 8.9 off the Sumatra coast, tsunami alert. :frowning:
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has issued an Indian Ocean wide tsunami watch following a huge quake in northern Indonesia.

The Tsunami watch affects Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Burma, Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Singapore.

The US Geological Survey recorded the magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the west coast of northern Sumatra.

The quake was measured at a depth of 33 kilometres.

USGS said earthquakes of this size “have the potential to generate a widespread destructive tsunami that can affect coastlines across the entire Indian Ocean Basin”.

I can’t believe no one posted the one we had earlier this week. I KNOW I felt it. 5.4 April 8.

This big one off Indonesia is a worry.

So did someone in Indonesia piss off someone upstairs? They keep having major earthquakes like every year!

Too early! Did not feel it!

But yes, now Indonesia had a second biggie, an 8.2 aftershock. No news yet whether they or anyone else has been hit with tsunami, and since no power in Banda Aceh, it is hard to say at this moment what is going on.

Our prayers and best vibes to them, hopefully they will be spared this time.

I think the first one was more side to side movement, which is less likely to cause tsunamis. I haven’t heard about the second.

The second was the same.
