so I can use easycard from Taipei train station to Ruifang Train Station?
I have tried but to be honest I get stuck all the time. So ticket it is. My friends can, though. I guess it depends whether it is a standard EasyCard or attached to a credit card or trinket. So do try to use it, but be ready for plan B. Meaning don’t rush.
Not just local trains (區間車) but also juguang (莒光) and ziqiang (自強). Exception is the Taroko Express, which is listed as 自強 which might give confusion.
Sat next to this gal on a train from TAoyuan to Taipei and she said , IIRC , the Easy Card doesnt give one a seat but is cheaper then buying Chukuang or Tzichiang tickets.
That people were using it to ride these trains to Taipei.

But I know Taipei - Zhongli can be done by easy card.
Yes it’s a bit cheaper but you will have no reserved seat and might have to stand. But if you’re lucky there will be seats available.

that means for my trip to Taiwan, I will have to buy TRA ticket from
Taipei > Hualien.
Hualien > Su-ao Xin
Su-ao Xin > Taipei
Taipei > Ruifang (2 way)
