I don’t think anyone minds people, including you, being wrong from time to time, and correcting other people about things they’ve gotten wrong or phrased poorly is part of the internet and internet forums.
What people mind is:
- Swooping into every thread like Captain Incorrecto with wild uneducated guesses about things they know little or nothing about, and presenting those things as facts when they’re almost invariably wrong. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing, and perhaps read and learn something, rather than writing without thinking.
- Ignoring the corrections given by others, usually not even responding, and repeating the same misinformation time and time again.
- Not having the self-awareness, despite repeated corrections, to stop feeling “very sure you were correct” and start thinking “hmm… maybe I should check if that’s true.”
