Employer uses WeChat, need a friend to help me sign up for WeChat

I just started to apply for an English teaching job online, my Chinese employer wants me to use WeChat as the primary way of communication.
To sign up for WeChat, I’m required to have an existing WeChat user to verify my identity, I don’t have friends that use WeChat, nor do I have friends in the first place.
Are there any existing WeChat users willing to lend a hand here?

There are some ways (Google search) to sign up without a friend, but they take some effort and don’t always work.

Did WeChat change its rules?
I just signed up with cell #.
Nothing about any identity verification.

I second that.
If they want you to use it, they should be able to help you with the verification process.

That’s because they want data of many foreigners to share with the CCP.
