Hey all
My partner and I have just started the engagement ring search, leaning towards a gemstone - sapphire - instead of the traditional diamond. Of course,Tiffany’s was the first stop. I’m working to balance the cost (overpriced) with the quality and guarantee. We’d prefer to find a reputable, family owned dealer, possibly able to do a custom order. Still, we will be on the move a lot and appreciate that Tiffany’s may always be there for a repair, upgrade etc. Any thoughts or recommendations? Are the local shops reputable? What’s the best area of the city to start the search?
Thanks!!
I think Tiffany’s rings are fugly as hell.
I ended up buying one from Georg Jensen, they have stores around Taipei (almost any major mall or department store), the design is beautiful, and their staff is much nicer than the people at Cartier, for example. If you go to a minor store, don’t pick Aluxe Diamond near Zhongxiao Fuxing, my wife’s wedding ring lost one of the stones after one week of use and they refused to repair it (they had the nerve to say it was my wife’s fault that the small diamond was missing).
Try the U-bend under the kitchen sink. Might be one there.
I have nothing constructive to add except: Congratulations!!
I’ve been very disappointed by the style of engagement rings in Taiwan and their prices. I found much better deal in my own country…
They looks quite all the same (style point of view, which is a common thing in Taiwan…).
That’s why I bought my wife’s engagement ring last year online at bluenile (bluenile.com)
Safe, fast to deliver (and with insurance), correct prices, I loved their large choice (My wife really likes it and thinks now Taiwan style are not so good), and you choose the ring style but also the type of diamonds (if any).
But you need 2 weeks to receive it tho, if you are not in a hurry, I strongly recommend you to visit their website.
I guess I will add something afterall. My soon-to-be-wife and I got our wedding rings at a random local jeweler. They’re nothing spectacular but they weren’t very expensive, and we plan to “upgrade” to newer ones in 5 to 10 years when we have more of that thing called money.
The engagement ring is supposed to be the pricey one, but I ended up going for something very cheap that I found in a mall back home (less than $300) and promised, after the proposal, to buy something nicer that we pick out together. Wouldn’t you know, she’s happy with the cheaper one. I guess that’s good, though, because Taiwanese people don’t tend to wear their rings out.
