I would love to casually have The Simpsons on in my house whilst we do stuff. Just feels nostalgic as I used to watch Simpsons when I was a kid. I either want to find Chinese subtitles for the English version of the Simpsons, or English subs for the Taiwan Chinese version.
Does anyone know where I can find Chinese subs for the English version?
I guess I could just add official English subs to the Chinese version, but I know the Taiwan Chinese version has Taiwan specific jokes, and I’d like it all to match. Does anyone have a download link to the full Taiwan Chinese seasons? How many did they actually make?
I can add the subtitle files to the video files myself.
I’d prefer the newer seasons since I haven’t seen them.
I know of a few sites that do Chinese subs, but is there anywhere in particular that has accurate and good subs made for Taiwanese people? Maybe a Chinese language site made for Taiwanese.
This one has quite a few. I have used Subtitle Edit to autotranslate from Simplified to Traditional Chinese as well and move things around if anything is poorly timed.
I have seen that too but only for Japanese Anime, specifically AnimeEgo’s “Urusei Yatsura” Series where cultural notes can sometimes take up half the screen.
But that and anything that and anything that Rumiko Takahashi does is considered high art and literature.

In the old days you had to worry about video editing. But today just released the SRT files with proper time codes.
My point is The Simpsons is not a translation. It is a adaptation taking into account the local culture. It would be great for learning Chinese if you can get the right subtitles.
Every good cartoon has to deviate from the original language script and localize it to the target audience if it is done well. A cartoon is based on puns, rhymes and other things and you just cannot translate the story literally.
An example of terribly translated cartoons will be Nickelodeon products.
My young kids and I were rolling on the floor laughing at a penguins in Madagascar episode. Of course we ignored the Chinese subtitles which followed the Chinese language track.
The kids’ cousins walked in looked at the TV for a few minutes, shrugged their shoulders and walked away.
I chose to investigate.
There’s an episode called Popcorn where the animals do anything to get the popcorn. The lemurs and the penguins form two teams. And for a bet King Julian and Skipper tried
to command each other’s teams.
Someone asked Julian if he will fail.
Julian said he does not know the meaning of the word failure he will, “what’s the other word that means the opposite of fail?”
The smart lemur said “succeed.”
Julian got on his high horse and said “Suck Seed? No one will be sucking seed. We will be eating popcorn.”
Nickelodeon just literally translated this dialogue into Chinese
No “Succeed”, no “Suck Seed.”
Since the penguins of Madagascar is 90% based on puns and wordplay I can understand why are Chinese just walked out.
I cannot speak for other shows of Nickelodeon.
I hear that Disney and cartoon Network do a better job according to my kids but they still prefer the English translation of English original material.
Stick to cartoons that were created in the native language you are studying or be careful of the subtitles you are looking at.
