Do you consider things like good public education, fire departments and other emergency responders, police and military who protect law-abiding citizens from those who would want to harm them or their property, clean water, working roads, etc. to be “free stuff” that no one should never brag about doing a good job of providing? Or do you consider these to be things that any wealthy nation with a well-functioning government strives to provide as part of the greater good? Most countries outside of the US put healthcare in this category, as well. I’m personally very thankful Taiwan does.

I’m not against public goods. Would you brag about being on food stamps?

Yes, a nation boasting of having a good public health system is exactly like an individual bragging about being on food stamps. Your logic is truly flawless in this thread. Got anything else for us?

You’ve also got another European who provided proof Asia is indeed poor. Then another guy who said Asia is poor, GDP notwithstanding, because they don’t clean the streets.

Beyond that you got “owleyes” who’s obviously not Asian and speaks of Europeans in the third person so he/she is probably north American.

Of course! We don’t want affordable healthcare for all. That’s free stuff! We earn our healthcare the hard way, like our grandparents did, by letting creeps pay to watch us while they masturbate. We must support the for-profit healthcare industry. Them CEOs’ fourth vacation homes ain’t gonna pay for themselves!

I’d add that among the Baltic states, for example, massive changes in bilateral relations have happened during the Tsai government. Before, how many connections did we really have with the Baltics? Now it’s all about tech, sharing democratic values when faced with aggressive neighbours . . . and for us forumosans enjoying excellent Ekselence ice creams in Taiwan! Things are changing, and perhaps older perceptions will be changing too.

(I understand that forumosans such as @DKaoshuing and @PeiHua-Connie visit often, so they could definitely say more than I can.)

Be back in Vilnius on on Sunday. I see more Baltic products in Taiwan than Taiwanese items in the Baltics, but if I see anything will have photos!

Nice day here in Milano , will meet my Taiwan co worker here, her fisr time in EU so will as k her after few days about EU vs. Taiwan (Its trip to see if she can do longer term work here)

Also FYI: Finland , HEL airport . on some days 4X as many flight to Japan vs. BangKok, Finair has seasonal flights to my mid size Japan city (FUK) and all year flights to Hanedea, narita and Kansai in Japan, and there is JAL service all year.

Flights to/from HEL airport to Changi, ICN, HKG as well mainland china so to Thailand one flight a day, so not sure why the first post mention Thailand as most.

HEL (Helsinki) in general my Gateway to Northern Europe so I mention it.

One last item MXP airport: 米蘭－馬爾彭薩機場 (Milan Malpensa Airport)
Direct flights from Taipei (as well as HKG which I use as KHH-HKG-TPE)
Superfast entry for Taiwanese and Japanese as there is e gate for us (on the very far right, but also someone who sees your passport and will direct you, I was the first one out to the baggage area which is not as fast). Also Milano great city overlooked by visitors who tend to go others famous Italian cities . A great business city, working on seting up a regional office here.

Japanese tend to think Brasil to Poor and Backwards, quite a few Japanese went there a long time ago some has moved back to Japan.
