I hope that’s the case. It’s a bummer though when you one shows up at a youbike station and there are no bikes in sight…

According to this article they are supposed to take up less space. I would like to see the numbers though to see how much room is being saved or extra bikes added to a station.
Question for 2.0 users: Do you use the same YouBike app as for 1.0 or is it a separate app. If the same, they must differentiate the 1.0 and 2.0 docks on the map, right?

In my observation from wandering aronud Gongguan, it seems like the newer stations take up less space, but they also seem to be focusing on having more stops with less bikes at each stop.
One thing I like about the current system is that the stations are pretty big and balanced pretty well. The stop near my apartment is almost always 50/50 empty/full unless you go around commute time.
With the new smaller stations they don’t seem to be re-balanced often (or at all?) and I see a lot of empty ones. It might be just anecdotal though - I don’t live in the area.
No ubikes stations in Yangmingshan. Only in the towns around.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I was thinking maybe sometime rent one at the top and ride/roll down.
Please refrain from doing this. There’s a reason why there are no ubike stations on top of the mountain.
Ubikes are pretty bomb proof, but not meant for things like descending a mountain that tops off at 1100m above sea level.
Reminds me of the U.S. where trash is left in shopping carts.
Pigs everywhere, I’m afraid. Although Japan seems more civilized than most in that respect. Maybe some other countries in Europe, as well, perhaps.
Every few weeks I would get a surprise garbage deposit on my scooter. I guess they figure if they set it down, it isn’t littering. Same thought process with the bike basket

The first 30 minutes won’t be free anymore in New Taipei City and Kaohsiung
I saw a red envelope in one once. Creepy.
That sucks, but I can understand it and 5 NTD isn’t too bad. People were gaming the system a bit, always docking their bikes after 20 minutes and grabbing a new one.
I’m renting more and more bikes that are a bit… busted. Like weird rattling when I ride or the brakes seeming off. Some riders are definitely taking the bikes places they shouldn’t.
3 Ubike posts from me in a row. Better give it a rest. I’m becoming a bit of a Ubike junkie. Rode from one end of Kaohsiung to the other last weekend.

Can’t believe you can still do that in Kaohsiung. People were doing that in Taipei years ago (I remember talking about it earlier in this thread) until they updated the system to prevent riders from abusing it this way.
How did they stop it?
You wouldn’t be able to get another bike within like 15 minutes of returning one. The dock would show an error code.

For visitors, Kaohsiung is a lot of fun with this system now in place, as it’s possible to cover a lot more ground without getting completely fried!

Taichung YouBike 2.0 has exceeded 200 stations in operation from December 18, 2020 to April 2021.
It is estimated that 1,000 stations will be completed before the end of 2023!
