Everything you wanted to know about the YouBike

Yes, but you gotta update it regularly to keep up with all the new suspect numbers.

Some of the best news I’ve heard about Tainan recently.

I love riding my own bike around there.

This is really f****** wonderful especially in Tainan where useful mass transportation is almost non-existent.

Hope they continue to improve bike Lanes accordingly.

Having an efficient useful bike system is the last hold out to make Tainan really wonderful for tourists and locals that live in Tainan.

So who actually got all the money from the last bike fiasco I wonder.

Never tried the current (soon-to-be discontinued) T-Bike system.

If the youbike operators in Tainan can replicate Kaohsiung’s success, that would be awesome.

I tried many times to use the current bike system. I could never get registered after trying many times. I have all that appropriate credentials.

They didn’t have many stations, and stations were not in useful locations, it wasn’t really useful anyway.

I’m sure somebody in the government got their kickback money out of it so you know finally it’s finished we can move on to something useful for people

If you use the QR code option, once the bike is pushed into the dock and securely locked, you can just walk away. To be on the safe side though, it’s best to wait until the screen displays 還車成功 (The same music when you swipe-out also can be heard), although I don’t always follow my own advice…

I don’t understand why swipe-out is necessary.

Because it’s a time-based rental, swipe-out serves as a confirmation of cost.

QR code rental is time-based too - you just need to have a payment method (LINE Pay or a credit card) linked to your virtual card. The bike returned to the dock should be enough information to stop the timer. If it can be done with a QR code, I don’t see why it cannot be done with a physical card. I am guessing that the issue is with the physical card infrastructure (maybe the data sent to the cloud is delayed?), not with the You Bike infrastructure.

For me I think of it as tap in, tap out—much like using the MRT or the buses. There’s a consistency to it, and at least in my experience it does seem to work. Caveat: I’m not using the QR code function, I actually use an Easy Card.

Guy

2.0 will not let me rent because it says insufficient funds.

1.0 no problem renting.

Over NT$700 on card.

Anyone experienced this?

No.

Guy

Me either.

Any other no’s?

’ + No

So how does 2.0 work? Does it require a different registration? They have popped up in new taipei city as well.

I used the EasyCard I’ve used many times for 1.0. No new registration. I forget if anything was different, but if I figured it out, it must have been easy.

Next is p-bike in Pingtung.

Tried to use 2.0 in Taichung. It forces me to use credit card and did not allow EasyCard

Is the card registered with 2.0? It’s a different registration. If the card has been registered, call them.

I’ve been using the same card on 1.0 and 2.0 for a long time and all the sudden it doesn’t work on 2.0.

I’m going to talk to youbike.

I rode bike, parked it, took care of my business in around 5 minutes, but can’t then use bike to return to home or my next destination.

Bikes available but cannot use them…15 minute wait between bikes, lot of bikes available, it’s entirely full.

Well isn’t that like brilliant.

Do not return a bike if you think you might need one within the next 15 minutes.
