Does anyone know of any expat Cycling groups? I’m pretty new to Taipei and looking to just find a group to ride with. Nothing too complicated, just casual. Meetup.com and facebook seem to be lacking in this dept.
I don’t know if there’s any expat specific group. There are groups of friends or acquaintances that ride together. @ranlee is a Rapha something (I’m not familiar with the terminology) and can probably guide you if you want to join a Rapha ride. Most riders will be locals, but it should be easy to find people who want to speak in English with you.
The groups that I know of aren’t active anymore. If you ride up and down Feng Gui Zui on a Saturday morning you should bump into a few groups of big noses.
To be fair this is a good idea, most seems to attach themselves to a local group and tag along with them.
There’s a bunch of hard hitter big noses you generally see on the Yang Ming Shan roads.
The biggest groups of local riders now seem to be those in the Pas Normal gear. I have no idea why it’s become so popular. In my day you’d try and wear the most obscure gear you could find. Usually from a now defunct continental outfit from the eighties. Now everyone wants to wear the same immaculate bibs and white socks.
I attribute that to the Rules
not sure about taipei bike works but feedzone cafe offer group rides with foreigners. alternatively, search the relevant keywords on open line group and you will find a handful of them.
