I’ve filled up a 1TB external hard drive about 1/2way with heaps of movies. When I now go to open it the only folder I’m shown is: $RECYCLE.BIN.
Clicking on Properties I see that 1/2 of the drive is still filled up which tells me the movies are (hopefully) still there. When I go to: View > Tools > Check > Scan there’s no response.
My Q is: Since I’m heading to Taichung this weekend, does anyone know a good hardware person down there who can help salvage my movies on this hard drive? Thanks
You might be able to use TestDisk or similar software to copy the files over to another drive. I’ve done that before with a failing hard drive, but it was a couple of years ago and I can’t really help with the troubleshooting. Just had to muddle my way through it.
I think the movies would have to be quite important to you to justify paying what it usually costs for professional data recovery.

Place I went to asked for $NT 800 to do a look see, then would want an additional $NT 3 to 8,000 to retrieve the files. I passed.
Sometimes using a Linux machine can help access stuff borked by windows
