Eye Exams in Taipei

I see that people have some experience getting their eyes examined in Taipei…can anyone mention places of particular note, either for good or bad? I need to get my prescription updated, and I just want to find an optician or opthamologist I can be confident about…

I spoke with an eye surgeon friend this morning and mentioned your question. He said it’s normally best to go to any small eye clinic for your eye test, then take the prescription to a good eyewear shop. For the latter, my friend recommends 伯爵光學眼鏡公司, Bo2Jue2 Guang1xue2, Zhongshan N. Rd., sec. 2, #178, which is open 9:30a-9:30p, closed Sundays. It’s 30 meters north of the NW corner of the Minquan/Zhongshan intersection.

It’s the only eyewear shop I’ve ever dealt with in Taiwan, and I like them very much. They’ve always given me a good price, taken the time to discuss options patiently with me, and even put together the optometrist’s mockup prescription (with the funky insertable lenses) to double check my friend’s prescription change, to ensure we really wanted to make the change. Superb service. They come highly recommended by various leading eye surgeons, and Chen Shuibian uses them too. In fact, I would trust them to do the eye check themselves, if I didn’t know my surgeon pal already.

Wow, that is really great information to have. Thanks so much for your help!

What’s the typical range for the glasses you’ve purchased from them? As for finding an opthamologist, I could use a recommendation. My eyes are a little “different” and I prefer that an opthamologist/cataract specialist to check them.

I’m thinking of just going to NTU Hospital for all my doctor and checkup needs. Anyone have good/bad news about them?

TIA.

Anyone ever heard of environmental or developmental optometry? It’s not too bad.
