Anyone ever use their service? I was quoted approx. NT$ 1K for a month while traveling around Thailand & The PI. Would this be better than ponying up for local SIM cards in each country.

I haven’t used FET for many years, but that sounds a bit expensive, is it “all you can eat” or a limit?
I have been using CHT 5GB package, global, for a month and that is cheaper. Anyway using WiFi at hotels and friends so 5GB last long for me
I just did a bit of traveling and opted to grab a Nomad Esim, went for one of the regional packages that covered the countries I was staying in, service was decent for my use and simple to set up.
May be worth looking into if it covers what you need.
These third party eSIM apps (Holafly, Airlo) purchase low-priority leftover 4G/5G traffic have slow internet speeds compared to native telecom providers.
Not to mention, they usually route all your data traffic through Hong Kong/China, which can cause issues if you access a banking app without a VPN.
But if you prefer the convenience of a single app with more expensive rates, then sure.
Its not an App (they do have one to manage your account but I never used), just regular E-sim. It connected direct to the local networks in the country I was in, speed was exactly the same as the local SIM card (friends who we met up with while in one of the countries who had the same network).
No data was routed anywhere except to the local provider, connecting to works VPN showed my data was coming exactly from where I was.
I don’t believe you. Your understanding of a VPN is incorrect. The whole point of a VPN is to not show where you actually are.
If you got VPN incorrect, I can’t trust your assessment of wholesale bandwidth prioritization, virtual mobile providers, or international data forwarding.
Obviously it won’t directly connect 5G to e.g. CMHK or T-Mobile when inside Taiwan. CMHK and T-Mobile don’t operate any towers in Taiwan.
First, Nomad eSIM must connect to FET, Taiwan Mobile, or CHT.
Second, it gets routed to e.g. CMHK or T-Mobile for billing/accounting purposes. How else does Nomad keep track of your data usage?
Finally, does it go to your final internet destination, which includes corporate VPN servers.
You can see how the above is slower than simply buying an eSIM directly from CHT or Taiwan Mobile, which cuts out the Nomad accounting middleman.
This is the works VPN, as in direct to the works network with all the security checks, you do know there are other uses of a VPN, not just to try to anonymously surf on the web.
Why would I use it in Taiwan? this is about traveling abroad, maybe read the question.

They don’t, they just sell you the pre loaded esim, it’s very simple and you could go read about it online.
I mean it’s up to you if you use it or not, but it was a service recommended by my bank and I trust them. it did the job it was supposed to do and was easier and cheaper then getting individual SIM cards in the counties I was traveling too (which is what I used to do), as the poster pointed out here, using the FET roaming service is expensive for what you get.
No e-SIM in my cheap-o Samsung. I’ll just pay for a local SIM at DMK upon arrival.

I usually find CHT have very competitive rates for replacing plans in Asia. Usually cheaper/on par with Airalo or other eSIMs for similar data allowances. Especially SEA. They have a 20GB package that covers Thailand, Vietnam and other SE countries for a few hundred.
usually more convenient than keeping my Taiwan sim and foreign eSIM active simultaneously while abroad.
Their American and European roaming packages are way more expensive than travel eSIMs/local SIMs though.
