Fastest way by public transport from Taichung to Taidong

Anyone know the travel times from Taichung to Taidong? Seems like taking me 5-6 hours from Kaohsiung.

I would guess the fastest way would be to take the High Speed Rail to Kaohsiung(45 min) then the Tze-Chiang train over to Taidong (around 3 hours).

I just had a look at this. The time to Hualien seems to have something very wrong with it.

Fastest would probably be 1 hour HSR to Taipei, 15 minute taxi over to Songshan airport and catch a 50 minute flight to Taidong. Book flight in advance to minimize waiting time at airport.

Yup flying would be fastest ala tango’s post. Otherwise navillus has got it right.

I got the HSR to Gaoxiong (less than and hour) and the TRA (three and a half) from there (metro btwn)…
Never thought of flying - any ideas on the prices/convenience?
