Filipinos are gracious guests

When is it gonna be your turn to experience it?

Working 12 hour days 6 or even 7 days a week for substandard wages with little to no labor protections as you are essentially an indentured servant to your boss along with the headhunter that you owe enormous debts that need paid off before you can regain your freedom? Nah, I think I’ll pass.

Jeez, being a public school teacher isn’t THAT bad.

This thread reminds me of the posts of Taipei 101 and its apparent beauty by a certain member of Taiwan’s South Asian resident community . . .

Guy

I’ve noticed a recently trend on TikTok and Facebook where Filipino workers count out all the 1000NTD notes from their Taiwan pay packet, with lots of positive comments like “Thank you Taiwan” and “Thank you God”.

It seems to be a flex / “face” thing, but they really do seem to genuinely be grateful about the money they’re earning here.

The headhunter fees were meant to have been phased out.

Taiwan’s monthly minimum wage (~NT$29,500 / ~₱55,100+) is roughly 2.8 to 3 times higher than the monthly minimum wage in Metro Manila (\₱19,000
Average Salaries: General average gross monthly salaries show an even wider gap, averaging roughly NT$58,000 (US$1,865) in Taiwan compared to around ₱20,000 (US$320) in the Philippines

I’m just pointing out that @OysterOmelet never takes the opportunity to visit the country he gets hot for whenever any rando decides to so much sneeze in this direction.

Maybe we need to combine all the topics about people farting towards Taiwan into one big inferiority complex thread.

It must be > 3x what they make in the Philippines. Otherwise they wouldn’t come to Taiwan.

We can merge this thread with that one.

It is possible that some have higher pay and better treatment than others?

For some people its hard to fathom that there are countries which has lower average income compared to the factory jobs here in taiwan + freedom

My company and many others here are joining the Responsible Business Alliance as part of CSR initiatives. As such migrant laborers are not allowed to incur any costs when taking up new jobs. Overtime is also strictly controlled. I’m sure many are still being taken advantage of but things are getting better.

That’s good, although I believe many of the factory workers want that overtime so they may not be as enthusiastic about that.

What nationality are the coyotes usually?

That works inside taiwan but agencies inside the other countries still operate and will continue to operate.

Desperate people in other countries looking for jobs just don’t have the money or resources to even buy a transport ticket to go apply for the job, have a picture taken, etc. so those agents help them out along the way.

Not saying it’s good but for many people it’s their only lifeline to actually get a job.

Taiwan is doing their part to help by opening offices in other countries and telling people come directly to our office and we will help you.
