Fireworks

I wonder what is the legality of fireworks here in Taiwan? I’ve heard from stores that sells it that most of it is illegal except for the “enviromental friendly” firecrackers… but people still use it anyways and cops seems to ignore them anyways. So what is the law really and if there are a law is it one of those unenforced laws?

No one has answered this poster’s questions, and now I have the same questions.

I saw reference in the Canada Day thread to fireworks, but no details. Anyone know the organizer of that event?

What’s the deal here? Can someone buy a few fireworks somewhere and shoot them off without going to jail? I’d like to fire a few off tonight in honor of the 4th of July, but have no idea where to buy them. I’d appreciate any pointers.

Thanks.

P.S. - Light is far more important than noise.

I really wish fireworks were illegal here except for maybe one or two days a year. I’ve been wondering if there are enforced age restrictions on the purchase of fireworks here for quite sometime. I have no idea for the answers to the original posters question.

Seeker 4, you can definitely buy a few fireworks and set them off without going to jail. A park is a good place to go and do it rather than a street with thousands of people around. Go to the stalls near a temple to buy them.

Try a “mom and pop” toy shop. Tell them in chinese that you want some fireworks and they will either say they dont have any or they will show you what they got. According to some shops it is illegal but apprantly so many people buys them especially on new years that most toy shops will sell them. Im not sure that anyone will want to enforce the law if it is illegal because thats like banning cigarettes… I’d bring a chinese friend with me if I were you (actually I wont need to) since some may not trust forigners…
