Firing Ranges

Are there any gun ranges in the Taipei City area where one can practice shooting?

I was in Thailand recently and they can be found, especially on Samui and in Phuket.

Any locations for firearm target practice in the Taipei City area?

Thanks.

I believe the answer is no. Taiwan is one of those sensible countries where guns are banned.

God help us the day guns are legalized on this island.

Actually, there was a thread quite a while back, and evidently there is or was an indoor range where one could go and shoot the range’s guns for a fee. I don’t have time to search for it right now.
BTW, “sensible” is strictly a matter of opinion. In the US, those states with the least restrictive “gun control” laws have the lowest incidence of violent crimes by guns.

Thanks Rascal! Merged.

5 pages here and still no information on how to get to a firing range in Taipei!

When I lived in Taipei I asked around but was told there is none, but then again I was also told that it’s not possible for civilans to practice shooting at all in Taiwan (which is disproven by the existence of the range in Kenting).

Rascal,

No, they’re here…it’s just a matter of finding them.

Google search in English keeps showing me something called Gongsi Shooting Range but with no exact address or website. It was mentioned on some hotel booking pages with a list of activities to do.

On the map, the shooting ranges are showing up near the Grand Hotel and in Taoyuan with the name Gongsi Shooting Range, but again, with no specific address info.

Maybe call the Grand Hotel and see if they can sort me out on location info.

Thanks.

Well, this is the best that a Google English search would turn up for me, but it’s in Chinese:

If you know the name than it’s easy:

No.6-4, Kulinglin, Gongsi Vil., Guishan Township, Taoyuan County 333, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

Any hints regarding the one near the Grand Hotel? There are some military installations around that area, so it might not be a public range.

Hey thanks!

If I find the address for the one near the Grand Hotel, I’ll post it…When I did the Google search it showed up on a Hotel booking website map of taipei city area and activities to do, such as Mountain Biking, hiking, badminton, bowling, etc. Of all things, they listed a target shooting / firing range - but with no address or directions.

Appreciate the above info!

You are welcome.

If you still have that map post the link, then I can probably identify it.

I think it’s for police and military pistol training only. i.e., not a public range: and why should there be a public range in Taiwan, where guns of any kind are illegal except for security services?

The range itself is located in the short lane between the Minquan University entrance and the fire station, on Zhong Shan Road just north-east of Jiantan MRT station.

Yes, you’re right, that range near Ming Chuan University is not open to the public.

After some research, it seems the only firing range for firearms is out in Taoyuan. There are no firearm rangs in Taipei City (just air gun shooting clubs / ranges).

Thanks again for your help.

There is a public range in Kenting, see a few posts back. It makes sense for sport-shooting; in Malaysia for example guns are also illegal yet they had shooting range that people could use if they became a club member (after going through some application process that requried approval of the relevant authorities).

Where’s the one in TaoYuan? What’s it called? I haven’t fired any guns in over a year and I’d love to shoot.

I provided the address a few posts above, the one called Gong Si.

Ok I found the range near Linkou (Taoyuan County) on Google Earth. It’s at 25o03’50.74"N, 121o21’04.41". I can see two skeet ranges and one trap range - or perhaps just a general “see if you can hit the clay” range. I’m amazed that they don’t get shot pellets falling on cars on the freeway - it’s damn close. So ok I’m going to take a drive out there, hopefully this weekend, to check it out, and will report back.
